I scream and begin falling back. The person reaches out their arms and catches me. "Oh... it's just you." I sigh. Alex smiles his straight toothed smile. He is wearing a suit and tie. I wonder why. "I was just letting you know that we are leaving really soon and that you can use the pool."
"Really? Thanks. I was just coming to ask." I reply.
"Well. I gotta go."
"Wanna meet my friends first?"
"Sure." He waits there while I go summon my friends.
"Come on! He says we can!"
"He?" Alaina asks. Liz giggles.
"Uh... yeah. I must have forgotten to mention that my school doesn't have a girls team. I play with all boys."
"What?" Allie cries. I think that might be her most used word in her vocabulary. "Isn't it hard?"
"Of course. It makes me better though."
"Yeah. I would think so." Allie says.
"The stairs haven't been installed yet." I say referring to the deck. "We'll have to jump."
"Fine by us." Liz replies.
We all jump at once and pretty much land at the exact same time. We all run towards the shrubs.
"Hey." Alex says. "I am Alex."
"Hey." Most o my friends say.
"I am Allie."
"I am Alaina."
"I am Liz."
"I am Bella."
"I am Kiaya."
I zone out while my friends finish.
"Nice to meet you all. I gotta get going, but feel free to hang out in the pool." Alex says politely.
"He's cute." Kiaya says after Alex is long gone.
I roll my eyes. Typical Kaiya.
I jump in the pool. "Gold!" I cry in triumph.
"Silver!" Liz calls as she splashes everyone.
"Bronze!" Alaina calls.
"Plastic!" Kaiya shrieks making the smallest splash of all. Everyone else moans and slides in the pool. Ever since we were very little, we have played this medal game. Whoever gets in the pool first gets gold. Second gets silver. Third gets bronze and fourth gets plastic. The remaining people don't get a medal, although they are just imaginary. We swim and splash like little kids do hours. My mom calls us in for dinner, but makes us eat dinner on the deck because of how wet our clothes are. We end up getting into a major food fight. Just like old times. I smile. This feels so good.
