"Where were you?" Allie asks.
"Caring for their dog." I reply. We swim, with the dog, for hours. Allie's mom comes to pick them all up after a lunch of hotdogs and apple slices. I am sad to see them leave, but I will see them tonight at their game. I take a shower after they leave, after putting Mike in my room. My head throbs as I rub ocean breeze conditioner into my thick, blond hair. The luke-warm water feel amazing on my skin. I unwillingly step out of the shower and onto the towel. I wrap my hair in another green towel. After forever, I dry my hair and get dressed in basketball shorts and a 3-on-3 basketball tournament T-shirt. I throw my long, thick hair into a ponytail. I stomp down the stairs like an elephant.
"Honey. We have some news." My mom says. Camden and Braden are sitting across from my mom and dad on the couch.
"What?" I ask.
"We've decide to take in your cousins, Kesey and Meghan." My dad says.
"Who?" I ask.
"Your cousins." My mom explains that my uncle, her brother, was an illegal drug dealer, and did drugs himself. My aunt physically harmed her daughters. Uncle Mark hardly made any money and they were poor. The girls didn't get the care they needed. Finally, Kelsey called the police. Her parents are in jail now and they need someone to look after them. My mom volunteered. I guess that if they live far away and have a rough family, it makes sense that we've never seen them before.
"They are on the plane coming over now." My mom smiles. "We should probably go pick them up now."
