Whilst the news of a mass murder running loose in the streets of England shook up her up a little, y/n didn't let it get in the way of her Summer break.

She had been writing constantly back and forth with all of her close friends. Hermione she learnt was on a trip with her parents in France, enjoying the beautiful streets and boulangeries. But she was obviously jealous of Ron and the rest of the Weasley clan. They had won the annual Daily Prophet Grand Prize Galleon Draw and used the money for a month long trip to Egypt to visit the eldest son of the Weasleys, Bill, who worked there as a curse breaker for Gringotts. The family had made the front page of the Daily Prophet but y/n had found out with a very excited letter from almost every Weasley child still attending Hogwarts. All except Percy, the third eldest son and the known snob of the family. From the moment y/n had met Percy, they hadn't gotten along, so you can imagine her annoyance at the news of his appointment of Head Boy.

Great, now he'll have a proper excuse to be a prick to me.

But the other kids that y/n was actually friendly with, sent her almost daily updates on their trip, She was a little behind due to the distance the owl needed to travel and the fact that the Weasley's owl, Errol, was constantly on the verge of death and could barely fly at all. After the third time the ancient bird collapsed onto y/n's bed, she decided to use her grandmother's owl.

Ron himself raved about the tombs Bill showed them that still had skeletons of Muggles that had tried to enter the tombs but were caught by the ancient Egyptian wizard's curses. Ginny complained about how Mrs Weasley wouldn't let her in to see the skeletons which had sprouted extra limbs and heads, and Fred and George were having a blast with all of the merchants and unique stalls that they so frequently haggled at. They had even sent her a miniature Sneak-o-Scope, a device that lit up and spun when there were untrustworthy witches and wizards around. They dubbed it a "portable Nimbus" after y/n's pet Kneazel.

Nimbus was a Kneazel, a cat-like creature that was highly intelligent and could sense when there were suspicious characters lurking. So the Sneak-O-Scope really was a lot like Nimbus with its ability to detect foul play.

Draco Malfoy, the instigator to most of Harry, Hermione and Ron's challenges and one of y/n's closest friends aside from the Gryffindor trio, was travelling around Eastern Europe with his Mother whilst his Father was away on business. The Malfoys were also a pureblood family, but unlike the Weasleys, they were extremely wealthy, more so than the l/ns. They also came from a long line of Slytherin's and mirrored most of the house's beliefs. y/n would normally distance herself from a person like Draco, but after the events of her previous school year, she found that he actually had the capacity to be a nice friend. He even invited her to join him in Ukraine, but she declined. If she was being honest, she wasn't ready to face Mr Malfoy after he almost killed Harry a few months ago.

Harry himself, seemed to be having miserable Summer holidays. It was his least favourite time of year for he was forced to return to the home of his only living relatives. The Dursleys were a Muggle family who detested magic so much, they had locked away all of Harry's school stuff, including his homework, the moment he stepped foot in the house. If it wasn't for y/n's instructions on picking the lock on the cupboard, Harry would be facing months of detention when he returned to school.

y/n wrote to Harry the most because he was the quickest to reply as he was the only one in the country. They talked about Hogwarts, Quidditch, and how excited they were for the new term, and Ron's failed attempts at using a telephone. y/n had never used one herself, but she knew she would have used her inside voice. Reading through all of his messages, y/n couldn't help but feel sorry for her best friend. He was cooped up in that awful house surrounded by awful people with no other choice but to endure it until September first.
