i've never
kissed anyone
(or at least
not in that way)
but still
the truth is
i've fallen in love
a thousand times
i've fallen in love
with my family,
with friends,
with my pets,
with ideas,
and little random things
i've fallen in love
with the brilliant blue sky
and the steady ground
beneath me
i've fallen in love
with the gray storm clouds
and the sunshine
i've fallen in love
with the stars
and moon at night,
as i gaze up
at the night sky
and can't find the constellations
so i make my own
i've fallen in love
with the soft fur of a cat,
with the loud pattering
of a cat running downstairs
i've fallen in love
with the snores
of a white-faced dog,
and the way a red dog
never seems to get tired
i've fallen in love
with the way a rabbit leaps,
the way a hamster
stuffs their cheeks full
until they're bulging
i've fallen in love
with the old, worn piano
out of tune
with pedals that hardly work
i've fallen in love
with the sound of
horse hair on string
a melody of wood and string
with my violin,
scratches and all
i've fallen in love
with the cold metal
of a flute on my lips,
the vibration
through the instrument
i've fallen in love
with the sharp corner
of a bookshelf,
worn from bumping into it
so many times
i've fallen in love
with words,
with ink on a page
i've fallen in love
with the smell of
ink
and paper
and glue
and the sound
of a turning page
i've fallen in love
with people
who don't even exist,
but they seem real enough
in my mind,
even though
i only know them
from their thoughts
and descriptions
i've fallen in love
with my mother's laugh,
with my father's smile
i've fallen in love
with the wide ocean
lapping at the sand,
and with the snowstorms
in december
even though i hate the cold
i've fallen in love
with the way a friend
can always cheer me up
i've fallen in love
with the wind,
whether it's a
gentle summer breeze
or the kind
that can bring down mountains
i've fallen in love
with the idea of love
and hope
and wonder
i've fallen in love
with all of these things
and more,
and eventually
i will fall in love again
i don't have a boyfriend,
but i am in love
with a thousand things
i've never loved
anyone romantically,
but i've still fallen in love
