Stars stared down at me
A thousand million miles away
I leaped higher than I ever had before
And took one in my hand.I paused
For just a second, floating there,
Standing among the dazzling gems in the night mine
Until it dripped through my fingers
The gooey brightness crept up my arm.It ate me whole
I rose from the dust
Higher, higher, higher,
Until I was speeding through the atmosphere,
Empowered by a tiny sphere of fire.The pain was excruciating, but I didn't care,
I was so excited
That I was getting somewhere,
I'm still going
Blasting through space
A hundred more stars bouncing off my face.—
I entered this in my school's Reflections contest...and WON.
