Fireworks

26 9 5

Colored stars
Exploding in the night
Descending to the breathless crowd
Until the wind carries you away

Filled with splendor
If only for a moment
Then fading away
As silently as you came
I wish I were a firework.

Awed exclamations rise
Saturating the air with lies
"Look how cool!"
"Oh, how beautiful!"
Promises made
Coming from mouths filled with firelight.

For now, we rest
Tomorrow, we fight
The fireworks cast their spell
Everyone holds their loved ones tight

Barely aware of what's around you
A flurry of sound, lights, and laughter
For now, suspended above the harsh grip of time
Fireworks enrapture us all.
