Imaginary

Bright red numbers tick by
On the clock, awaiting your reply

You said, "We had a good run, but it's over now," or maybe it was just in my head
But I was really enjoying our footsteps in sync and now I can hear them lying awake on my bed

Untied shoelaces and a perfect silver mask
That's all you were, I think I imagined you
I think I imagined me too

I imagined your words,
They cut through me like swords
But it was just that voice inside me

Come back later
When I'm okay
When my mind is here to stay
But right now
My sanity's away
Come back later
You're here to say,

"We weren't real."

Sitting in the city
Lost in empty thought
I imagine you beside me
I miss you
I wish you
Were real.
