3 • first day of school

buzz buzz buzz
that's my new alarm clock. and let me tell you, i don't like it! i groan and roll out of bed. i yawn and walk to my closet. i pick out one of the outfits katie bought me. it was a light purple crop top, with white high waisted jeans ripped at the knees, and black vans.

i smile and hop into the shower. i get out and blow dry my hair and put it into double french braids. katie bought me a backpack yesterday so i sling that over my shoulder. i grab my phone and walk downstairs.

i walk down to see everyone eating breakfast. "morning Annie!" billy said smiling at me, and then sipping his coffee. "morning, dad." i said cringing a little bit at the word dad. he looked at me and had a wide smile. i smiled back. "ready for your first day?" katie asked. "ready as i'll ever be..." i said with my voice trailing off. "you'll do fine sweetie. caleb will help you. right caleb?" katie said eyeing caleb. "what? oh yeah, of course." caleb said standing up. "come on annie, let's go!" caleb said grabbing his backpack. i nodded.

we walked out and to his car. i sat in the passenger seat. "so, since you're younger then me, i have some friends in your grade. i can introduce them to you." caleb said keeping his eyes on the road. "okay." i said nervous. "don't worry anns, you'll do fine. i'll be there with you. like siblings." caleb said smiling. "thanks caleb." i says smiling too. "anytime."

we arrived at the school and i can already feel myself getting butterflies. what if i get bullied? what if people don't like me? what if- "okay annie, we are here!" caleb said interrupting my thoughts. we both get out of the car. we walk down the halls of the school. everyone's looking at us.

"sup caleb"
"what's up caleb?"
"yo caleb!"

that's all i heard as we walked down the halls. caleb nudged me. "told you i was popular." he whispered. i laughed. we walked to the office. "oh hello caleb." the office lady said. "morning ms.katy. this is annie, my sister. she's new here." caleb said to the office lady. "oh. hello annie. here's your schedule." she said smiling. i thanked her and looked at my schedule.

the bell rang and it was time for first period. mine was english. i said bye to caleb and walked to english. i walked inside the classroom, everyone's eyes were on me. that made me feel pretty uncomfortable. "you must me julianna. i'm mr.jackson. it's nice to meet you!" "thank you, but i preferred to be called annie." i said quietly enough for him to hear. he nodded. "go ahead and pick an empty seat." i obviously walked to the back of the classroom and sat down by myself. no surprise there. the classroom started to fill up with more people.

a boy walked to me with brown curly hair. "is this seat taken?" he asked. i looked up and shook my head. he smiled and sat down. class started and mr.jackson started to talk. "i'm sorry, but are you new here?" the boy whispered. "yeah." i whisper back. "can i see your schedule?" he asked. i nodded and got it out of my pocket. he studied it. "Cool, we have every class together besides Math and Physics." He said smiling. I smiled back.

"Okay class, so today we are going to have assigned projects todo." Mr.Jackson said. Everyone groaned. "Yes I know you are all very excited. The person you are sitting next to is your partner." He said. The boy and I looked at each other and smiled weakly. "You will choose a book to make a poster on." He said. "You may start discussing." He said sitting down at his desk. "Okay, first things first. Let's properly introduce ourselves." He said. "My names Hayden Summerall." He said. "My names Julianna LeBlanc. But you can call me Annie." I said. "LeBlanc?" He asked. "Yeah.." I said confused. "Oh sorry. My friends last name is Leblanc too." I nodded.

Hayden and I planned to do the project at my house. But I'll have to ask Katie first.
-time skip to lunch-
Lunch time came around and Hayden said I can sit with his friends. We were walking to the lunch room together. Everyone was looking at us. Well, more like Hayden. "Why is everyone looking at us?" I whispered to Hayden. "I'm kinda a chic magnet." He said. I laughed.

We walked to a table with kids my age. "Guys meet Annie. Annie, meet Johnny, Kenzie, Caden, Lauren, Jayden, Conner, Carson and Lexi." Hayden introduced me. I sat down in the middle of Hayden and Lauren. "So Annie, are you new here?" Johnny asked me. I nodded. We all talked some more until Caleb walked over. "Hey G- Annie?!" Caleb looked at me. "Oh. Hey Caleb." I said looking back up at him. "Oh.. guys this is my sister, Annie." He said sitting down. "Sister? I thought you only had one sister.." Caden asked. "No An-" I cut Caleb off. "I lived in Texas with my aunt." I interrupted Caleb. I didn't want them to know that I was a foster child. They nodded. I'm surprised they bought that.

We all talked some more. I got to know everyone better. Lauren even invited me to her all girls sleepover. I gladly accepted. I'm glad everyone's being so nice to me. I just can't let them know about me being a foster child... or at least not yet.
