BEFORE DAWN

chapter Three

Dora had forgotten all about the stranger at the hospital, she was well aware of the way she felt around him but decided to leave it at that, there was no point thinking of him any longer. She was content with her daughter, she smiled noticing she always smiled when thinking of her.
'momma you are always smiling ' chimamanda asked her curiously.
'because I love you so much dear ' she tickled her. They played for a while before chimamanda asked her the question she has been trying to avoid
'momma, I want a daddy' she stared at her smiling
'now where is that coming from? '
'today at school, my teacher said a family has a mom, me and a daddy. Where us my daddy? '
Does just kept looking at her like she was seeing a ghost. For the past five years she thought she could make her daughter forget a father's love, she knew a day would come like this but she never expected it to be this soon.
'are we going to get him? ' chimamanda kept asking
'yes dear, but not now. Don't you love momma anymore? ' she tried to change the subject
'I love you momma, promise me you'll get me a daddy' she hugged her.
Tears gathered in Dora's eyes, 'I promise'.
'I love you momma '
'I love you so much angel' Dora kissed her.
'I'm a princess not an angel' he chimamanda pouted.
'you are everything to me ' she picked her up, tickling her.

jaden couldn't get Dora out of his head, he kept thinking of her at work, even at home. He laughed at himself.. He was going mad. Everything in him yearned for her sweet smile, the way her eyes shown whenever she smiled. He needed to see her again, he packed his bag and left the office.
#28 Aja street, jaden kept staring at the door, what was he doing here? This is insane. He could hear laughter from inside the house, he knocked on the door contemplating on whether or not to leave.
The door flung open revealing chimamanda,
'you! ' she shouted
'yes angel, can I come.. ' she slammed the door shut in his face. jaden was shocked.
Chimamanda ran inside the house to her mother, 'momma that man is here.. umm ..Mr jaden, he is at the door'
'what are you sure?' Dora got up and walked to the door fidgeting, she opened the door and was surprised to see him. He was actually standing here in front of her.
'hello' he smiled.
Dora kept watching him, she could not move, why was he here? She asked herself.
'can I come in? ' Jaden asked again.
'Ohh sorry, of course please come in'.  She opened the door wide, watching him as he entered. The uneasiness set in again, she frowned.
'thank you ' Jaden sat down taking in the view of the place,  she was a good decorator despite the small house.
'Chimamanda get uncle Jaden water please' Dora sat facing him.
'how are you doing? ' Jaden asked
'I'm okay, why are you here... I mean.. ' she was confused.
'I know I have no right to be here, I just wanted to check on you and your daughter ' he explained.
'I'm sorry I spoke that way. Thank you so much but you don't have to bother about us.. You have done enough already. ' she kept her head down, avoiding his stare.
'I don't intend to hurt you or your child if that's what you think, I only want to be friends with her and maybe even you. ' he kept watching her.
'really? ' Dora looked shocked. Why will you want to be friends with me? She asked herself.
'that's if you allow me ' Jaden added, he already hopes she would say yes.
'please say yes momma' chimamanda pressed.
'like I could say no to you ' she rolled her eyes.
'thank you ' chimamanda laughed.
Dora turned to jaden , looking at him for the first time today. He looked more handsome than the last time she saw him. She shook her head and frowned at her thoughts.
'so Jaden I wanted to know, don't you have a family? ' .deep down in her heart she wanted his answer to be negative, what was wrong with her?
'well I do,  but that's a story for another day' he smiled. Dora found herself smiling at him too, this was surprising to her.

They talked for a while before jaden decided to leave, 'I enjoyed today. Thank you for having me over '.
'you are always welcomed here ' Dora smiled before closing the door.
'I like him momma, he is very nice ' chimamanda jumped in her.
'okay. You are very funny princess '. She laughed.
Dora was happy,  she really had no friends here in NSukka but she was happy to know jaden. Somehow her mind wandered to Davin, she wished she knew where he was. She really missed him.
