BEFORE DAWN

chapter eleven

Dora opened her eyes to a piercing white light,she quickly shut it back groaning in pain.
Where was she? Her head hurt badly and she couldn't remember anything of last night.

'Dora?' A voice laced with tears made her force her eyes open again. The room smelled of detergent and medicine it was sickening.
'Oh my God ,you are awake I'm so sorry ,I should never had let you go by yourself '.

Amanda?
'Hey.' She managed to smile ,her head was killing her , all her body ached.
'I'm really sorry '. Amanda sobbed on.
Dora tried to move,but it hurt like mad all her arms where linked to wires.
' what...what happened ?'. She croaked.
Amanda sniffed ,' you don't remember ?'

Just then the door flew open,Jaden walked in followed by Samuel. His hands and shirts were bloody. He stopped when he saw her face ,trying to hide his hands.

Dora sat up, 'Jaden what happened to you? Are you okay?' Her eyes showed panic she had even forgotten she was the injured one.
Jaden walked close to her and kissed her,' I'm okay baby ,how do you feel now?' .
' I'm fine just a little headaches and body pain' ,she winced.
Amanda stood up,'I'll call the doctor'. She left.
Dora turned to look at Samuel and Jaden.
'What happened,I don't remember anything ' She frowned .
Jaden sat beside her ,stroking her hair.
'Lawerent attacked you, I'm so sorry I wasn't there with you , I mean I promised not to leave you I failed you'

Everything came back to her now, last night ,the party, her phone, lawerent.
Her eyes widened as she remembered it all, her baby .
She cuddled her stomach tenderly as tears flowed from her eyes.
'I'm so sorry baby. Samuel found you this morning ,you were all swollen.'
He turned to Samuel clenching his fist ,'you should have let me kill that bastard !'.
Samuel sighed ,' relax brother ,he won't come near her ever again .'

That explains the blood.
' you beat him up?, Jaden you could have been arrested or even injured ' Dora shook her head.
'He deserved it baby, no one touches you or my family ' Jaden hugged her.
Dora couldn't help but smile, she kind of liked the way he claimed her, but lawerent was still on the loose. She hated that man to the core.
' the police has him, don't be afraid. As much as I wanted to kill him myself Samuel made me hand him over '.
Jaden smiled .
'Okay ,how are the kids ?' ,she laid back down.
'Home ,they are fine Dora. You need to get well, just rest. The police wants to ask you a few questions though '.
' okay '. She shut her eyes again to sleep, but all she could see was lawerent ,his laughter echoed around her.
She jumped.
' you are safe ,relax '. Jaden assured her.

Samuel and his men watched lawerent ,it took all in him not to hit the fool straight in the face. The police had come to take him away but not after Jaden had almost beaten him to death.
He had never seen the kid like that before, anger was never Jaden's thing ,but this man had annoyed the hell out of him.
They followed the police to the station, Jaden had also drove down here after Dora finally went to sleep.
' where is he?' , he asked not even bothering to close his car door.
' calm down brother.' Samuel pleaded , he couldn't even contain his own anger.

Two police officers escorted lawerent from the car , Jaden pounced on him punching and kicking with all his might.
The police officers and Samuel had to drag him away from lawerent who was sprawled on the floor.
'You are an excuse of a man ,you know that right?, how could you even hit a woman and a pregnant one at that. I swear to you this would be the last time you do something as demoralizing as this I promise you. Even if it means selling everything I own to keep you here!'.

Lawerent laughed shaking his head. ' then you must be the stupid one then, I think you two suit each other. How pathetic! '.
Jaden made to hit him again but Samuel bit him to it ,he punched lawerent on the nose making him bleed.
'Take him away please' Samuel turned to the officers.
Jaden watched them take lawerent into the building , he had never once imagined someone to be this wicked and heartless. He could only imagine how much Dora had suffered at the hands of this man.
'We need to make sure he doesn't leave here,I'm going to press charges '. Jaden said to Samuel.
'I know ,I already spoke to the head of this station let's leave here I don't like the way he makes you behave.'
Samuel led him away.
'I'm going back to the hospital ' Jaden bowed his head.
'How is Dora and the baby?'
' she's fine , the doctor said she's lucky the baby wasn't affected from all the punching that moron gave her I'm actually allowed to take her home .'
Samuel nodded ,he glanced at Jaden. The kid had been through enough already.
'All would be well .calm down'. Samuel assured him.
'I'm glad you are here '.
Samuel squeezed his hand.

Amanda helped Dora clean up ,the doctor was coming to discharge her anytime soon.
'I really don't understand why lawerent would do this , its not like you guys were together or something .'
Dora sighed ,'I guess he was really obsessed with me back then .its so frustrating, he was such a nice person despite our fallout. At least when he was still friends with my brother '.

'I hate to ask this but what happens when he gets to see Chimamanda, don't you think he would come for her ?'
Amanda frowned at her own question.
'I won't allow it and besides be doesn't know. I would like to keep things that way she doesn't have to know her dad is a monster that tried to kill her mom .' Dora sighed.

The doctor walked into the room with a nurse smiling, 'you can go home now Dora but please make sure you take your medications. And I'll be seeing you in the next two weeks to check your baby's health and vitals .'

Dora nodded ,Jaden was already outside waiting for her and Amanda .she was glad this episode was over , everything had been so tiring and frustrating for her.
Jaden hugged her , inhaling her scent.
'I had missed you so much at night .'
She giggled ,hitting his arm playfully.
'Let's go home '.

Lawerent :

I sat opposite the investigators ,watching them with all irritation plastered on my face I wasn't paying attention to what they were saying I was too angry I had actually gotten caught .Dora was slowly becoming a pain in my life, she and that stupid husband of hers.
I had to act fast or I was sure going to go to jail, I had managed to call my old lawyer , I needed money too.
'Don't you have anything to say ?' The officer barked, he was getting angry .I loved that.
I looked up and grinned ,'I need my lawyer ,I'll talk when he's here .'
'Fine '. He got up ,'take him to the cell please .'

Don't think I'll be here for long officer and as for you Dora ,I have a new strategy for you.

I thought I had her perfectly in my grasp ,if only I hadn't left to get my keys she wouldn't have escaped. I was drunk and distracted.
I need someone to keep an eye on her outside, I needed anything to help me lie my way out of this.
Dora and her husband would press charges , i am sure of it. i need an outside eye. What was taking my lawyer so long anyways? This place was starting to irritate him.
I could still remember the fear in her eyes when I held her against my car , her bulging stomach not allowing enough room for me to press her against me. I hated her but at the same time I wanted her. Dora was one complicated person and I loved her so much it was sickening.
Dave found out about my obsession and tried to warn me but knowing who I was I refused to listen..no one tells me what to do. That night I had gotten so drunk because I had to get my mind off her but when we returned home , I knew I couldn't I needed to see her so I went up to her room.
The disgust on her face when she saw me made me boil with anger , I had come with an intension of begging her but she was playing so hard to get.
I was frustrated so I raped her ,maybe I only I hadn't done that then ...
Well it was done already no need for regrets I would get rid of her anyways.

The door opened and my lawyer came in, he had this bored look on his face , I don't care anyways they can all go to hell.
'Lawerent ' he nodded siting opposite me.
'Hello Nathan ,long time no see. You look great ' I fake smiled. I hated him, I hated everyone! .
He opens his briefcase ,'I can't say the same for you though. What happened ?'
I shrug,' just a mistake but I tend to clean it up ' .
He looks up at me now , ' you almost killed her , and its a mistake ? I thought you gave her up a long time ago .' He sighed.
'I know but it doesn't matter anymore, I need your help .I have to get out of here .' I spit on the tile.
Nathan shook his head ,'it won't be easy , they have proof .'
' we can find a way , you know , bribe a few people here and there .come on man, I know you got this .'
My life depends on this.
'This would be hard but I'll try .' He gets up to leave.
'One more thing. I need someone to watch her, I feel like there is more to her new family .I need an inside eye .' I almost whisper.
Nathan sighs again ,'okay '. He walked out.
I can trust Nathan ,I think. He was a good friend of mine and I hope he helps me. If I have to go down , then I'm not going alone. Dora is coming with me.
