My Musings: Positive Comments

One thing I really like about Wattpad is the different ways you can communicate with people. Whether it's in the comments section or a message board, hearing from other readers and writers always makes me smile.

I post a fair amount of comments myself. I'm very cautious when it comes to online safety and etiquette, so I always think carefully about my word choice before I post something, no matter how frivolous it may be.

I'm currently at the stage where I'm able to reply to all the comments I receive, so I do my best to be encouraging. It's one of my strong suits. It makes me happy when I think about the potential chance that my comment could make someone's day. In the future, I hope that will extend to my other writing as well.

That's why I strive to only say positive things. Of course, some comments can have a completely neutral tone, say, if you're asking a question, and I think that's totally fine. The main thing is that I never, ever, want to post anything negative. There's a big difference between that and constructive criticism; plus, there are ways to respectfully express your opinion. To me, that's really important.

Hey! Now that I've mentioned it, I just remembered. Readers, I have a favor to ask all of you. It doesn't require much time or effort, so I hope you'll hear me out. If you leave a comment on any of my stories, could you please abide by what I just mentioned in the paragraph above? It would make me so, so happy to see people lifting each other up and spreading smiles, even if it's just a few people or a single word. Even if you just type "hi" or "lol"--a positive word can really impact someone's life. It may not seem like a big deal at all, but you don't know what people are going through until you walk a mile in their shoes. For me, it helps to remember that there are human beings on the other side of the screen.
