Hello, everyone! Today I'll be giving you the behind-the-scenes of Say Hello To Angeline? as well as an inside look at my inspiration for the story.
Let's start at the beginning. Angeline first came into existence when I penned the "Bleeding Heart" poem and the corresponding drawing in a sudden burst of creativity.

Yes, Angeline is a character—but she is also a symbol. She carries a message. When I created her, I wondered what that message might be.
Next comes her story. It was really nice to let the words and images flow and see where they took me within the broad parameters I'd established, but I do worry that all the symbolism clouds understanding. While I was debating whether to publish this story in Wattpad, I received positive feedback, one friend remarking that "it's like you poured your soul into paper", so I decided to go ahead, hoping readers would still enjoy the story despite the veil of symbols. It is an allegory, after all.
I broke up the story into stages. The prologue coupled with the fact that most of the story is written in past tense lets us know that present-day Angeline is telling her story—but what is her story?

As I mentioned before, Angeline is a symbol. She looks like a normal girl save for her angel wings, which often serve to represent goodness and purity. So we know that Angeline has a good heart, but she talks about experiencing tragic and unhappy things. Why is that? You may notice that some tags for the story include "survival" and "overcoming", and these are key to what she represents. In spite of everything that happened to her, Angeline came out on the other side of her struggles. Even when she thought she was weak, she turned out to be strong. She survived. With this knowledge, she continues to overcome her struggles.
The content of the story and the adjacent drawings detail these struggles. Angeline speaks of her happy childhood in the meadow, an idealencompassing most people's emotions towards their childhoods—nostalgic and happy.
