My Musings: I Am A Shy Bean

Hmm, where to start with this one? Let me explain. Like I've said before with "the fangirl vs the reader", I operate in two main ways here on Wattpad with only a little in-between. I'm either a shy bean, or I'm vocal to the extreme. And I don't mean "vocal" as a negative connotation—that's just describing me on Wattpad when I leave a flood of comments on a particular chapter or story.

The thing is, though, that only happens on a few stories or so. For all the rest that I read, I'm like a ghost—silent as a cricket. Ironically, I'm more cautious now than when I first came to Wattpad. It's not caused by any negative experience, but simply my hyper-awareness of Internet safety. This happens with other things on Wattpad, too. Let's say that someone decides to follow me, or vote on one of my chapters, for example. I don't know them, and they don't know me. All I see is a name on a screen. But that person decided to show their appreciation. And that's awesome! Except then my "shy bean" side kicks in, asking "what do I do?!"

I think it's polite to thank someone for voting or following and such, but let's face it, communicating with people on the Internet can be scary sometimes. It can even be scary in real life, when you can see the other person's face! So that's a big part of the reason I stay silent on lots of my endeavors. As a reader, I like to stay in my own, small little bubble (like Angeline did in her story, perhaps..?). As a writer, I do my best to respond to comments and things like that, though not every single one in existence. I just want you all to know that even if I don't reply to your comment or return your follow, I still really, really appreciate your support. I honestly do. I mean, we're all individuals here, but look how much we can lift each other up when we're together!

My primary goal is to create a safe, positive space here, which is why I often consider safety and such matters. Social media is a big world, after all.
