Hello everyone! I'm excited to share this with you today. This is a fan song for @Sandcat- 's story, Iron God. I was inspired to write it while reading the first chapter of Part 3, in which one of the characters says the following:
"I know the way to Vralen's domain. You can follow me."--Akhel-Sakhalem, Iron God
In the context of the chapter, it's a simple statement. But for some reason, it stuck out to me. Resonated, even.
And then, it just kind of exploded.
Into an idea that snowballed.
Into an entire folk song.
...
Maybe I got a bit carried away?
Ah, nonsense; I had fun! I imagined it being sung a capella (without music) except for a slow, drudging drumbeat similar to the sound of a person trudging through the snow. My vision was of a folk or traveling song that the Shades (a race of creatures in the novel) or others would sing while on a long journey. This is the result of that:
I know the way to Vralen's domain
Where the shadows merge in the realm of Shades
I know the way to Vralen's domain
You can follow me
I know the way to Vralen's domain
With the ink-marked walls and the fresh bloodstains
I know the way to Vralen's domain
You can follow me
The way to Vralen's domain
You can follow me
I know the way to Vralen's domain
You can follow me
Oh, Vralen's domain
You can follow me
Hear the voices call from beyond the grave
You can follow me
I know the tale of Vralen's domain
Through fire and sword, the darkness came
From the wrath of hell, no one is safe
You can follow me
I know the tale of Vralen's domain
The Iron God waits to break free of his chains
His children fear when they whisper his name
You can follow me
The tale of Vralen's domain
You can follow me
I know the tale of Vralen's domain
You can follow me
Who knows the truth of Vralen's domain?
Of his captured heart and secret shame?
Of the countless children he has slain?
Soon we all shall see
Truth, in Vralen's domain
Soon we all shall see
We must go to that place in Vralen's domain
You can follow me
AHHH, it just gives me chills! I actually really, really wanted to post this as soon as I finished writing it the day @Sandcat- posted the first chapter to Part 3 as a nice surprise, but I had to wait because I already had two months' worth of buffer chapters set up in advance...if only Pandora's Box was as easy as all that...*sigh*. Anyway, the moral of the story is that patience is a virtue, which I'm sure you've all heard before...but AHHH, I'm just so excited that I finally get to post this!
In keeping with the practice of keeping my fan-posts as spoiler-free as possible, I won't go into detail of what happens in the story (because you should go read it yourself; it's that good, heheh...), but for those who are wondering, the characters in the drawing are Tevorac, Talin, Saliki, and Akhel-Sakhalem. There. That's it. It's up to you to go read the story and figure out who's who. (I mean, unless of course you've already read it, in which case...isn't it AMAZING?!) Alright, that's enough blatant fangirl-advertising from me.
Regardless of whether you're a die-hard fan or you have no idea what I'm talking about, I do hope you enjoyed it, and I would love to hear your thoughts! Thanks so much for reading!
This has been another chapter in An Author's Adventure. Stay tuned for next week!
