"Dawn's Formal Ball."

song: The Golden Floor by Snow Patrol

Dawn was hosting a formal ball at her house. Sailor was on a trip across America, visiting Pennsylvania, Niagara Falls, and such. I went to the ball anyway, not really expecting anything good to happen since Sailor obviously wasn't going to be there.

I was wearing a white tuxedo with black vest and red tie. My shoes were black leather and I had nice white dress pants. I'd come out as bi publicly, not just to friends, and Dawn's town knew too, so no one was too surprised to see me in a tux versus a dress. I wish I'd done this before, tuxedos are much more comfortable and I don't have to wear some confusing strapless bra with it.

I spotted Remi and slipped through the moderately crowded room towards her. She smiled as soon as she noticed me and I grinned as I bowed to her, asking her to dance. She took up my offer and put one arm on my shoulder, after I put my hand on her waist, giving me the other arm to hold. I held that other arm as we waltzed. We're just dancing as best friends, but that doesn't mean I can't prepare for the real thing.

"I never imagined you would ever wear a tux." She giggled lightly at me.

I chuckled. "Neither did I."

"Next you'll be cutting your hair super short and wearing rainbow all the time!" She exclaimed.

I laughed openly this time. "I'll pass on the short hair, but I'm working my way into wearing Jam's rainbow bracelet everyday. It just feels a little weird to, still, for some reason."

"You're still finding out what being gay is all about. And that's completely fine. Enjoy yourself, March." Remi told me as the song wound to a close.

I nodded. "Thank you. And I hope you find a guy today who's a much better dancer than I was right there, I'm afraid."

"You did great. Hopefully you find some other girl...or guy today to dance with, but behave! No PDA!" She exclaimed as she disappeared into the crowd.

I snickered. "If only." If only I could actually get a worthy kiss today...but there's no chance of that.

I have trouble remembering why I kissed her, why I kissed Remi, but I know I'll always care for her fiercely as my best friend. She's earned it, she's earned my trust, my love, and how I ever mistook that for anything romantic I'll never know. I know it was a confusing time, to cut myself a little slack. But now I know better. Now I know who's a best friend and who's worth investing a little of my heart into...

I noticed Dawn in the crowd. I might as well go talk to my hostess. I made my way to her. There were five or so guys talking to her, but they wisely cleared out when I appeared and said hello.

Dawn gave me a cute sort of half-naughty smirk. "Hello, March."

"Would you care to have this dance with me?" I implored as a new song came on.

Dawn's eyes glittered. "Why yes, I would love to dance with you. Shall we?"

She automatically placed her hand on my shoulder, giving me the dominant role. I swear, it must be the suit today. I held her waist with one hand and her free hand with my other hand, and we waltzed. The song was kinda nice but hard to understand, so I sung to her a much different song, one we could listen to with our hearts, not simply our ears. I felt it better fit the situation.

As I sung, the ballroom felt empty to me, all except for the dancing couple of Dawn and I, the chandelier grew larger but dimmer lit, the marble floors grew a milkier white, and the windows let in yellow faded sunlight, which turned the floor the color of gold. The air was crisp as a fresh apple and the scent in the air was the seductive smell of Dawn's curly hair.
