"Rocking Rhymes."
MarchxDawn
MarchxSerendipity
song: Tricky by Run DMC
It's just us, our group, hanging out outside on a beautiful sunny day with a boom box blaring out songs from the radio stations of the area. Remi, Serendipity, Dawn, and I are here. Sailor's wherever. Busy, busy girl, I can't keep track of her all the time.
They're all kinda singing along and I'm silent. Remi notices, because she's the kind of person who knows when something's bothering me, and she knows to ask. I'll always open up about it eventually.
"Why aren't you singing, March?" She asked.
I made a face. "I don't like the song."
It was that stupid song David Guetta or whoever sings that's so pervy and arrogant, not even like Bowling for Soup pervy, because I at least sympathize at how they're honest that they won't get the girl, and it's kinda cute how they're pathetic teenage boys at heart. Guetta is an -ss. No joke. Lyrics in a song mean so much to me, so if the lyrics are a joke, I won't listen to the song.
"You can change it to a song you like..." invited Remi.
I got up and turned the dial, eventually finding a classic.
I grinned. "Aw, yeah!"
"What?" inquired Serendipity.
The speakers started booming with my chosen song.
"This speech is my recital, I think it's very vital
To rock a rhyme, that's right on time
It's Tricky is the title, here we go..."
They all started to smile as I was singing along.
"It's Tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time,
It's Tricky...it's Tricky, Tricky, Tricky, Tricky,
It's Tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time,
It's Tricky...Tr-tr-tr-tricky, Tricky, Trrrrrrrrrrricky!"
I started flirting a bit with Dawn during the next verse, by winding up her curled hair during the lines. She even started singing with me.
"I met this little girlie, her hair was kinda curly,
Went to her house and bust her out, I had to leave real early,
These girls are really sleazy, all they just say is please me,
Or spend some time and rock a rhyme, I said 'It's not that easy,'
It's Tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time,
It's Tricky...How is it D?" I referred over to Dawn as "D."
"It's Tricky, Tricky, Tricky, Trrrrrricky,
It's Tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time
It's Tricky...Tricky, Tricky, Tricky," was her chorused reply back to me.
"In New York the people talk and try to make us rhyme,
They really HAWK but we just WALK because we have no time,
And in the city it's a pity cause we just can't hide
Tinted windows don't mean nothing, they know who's inside!
It's Tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time,
It's Tricky...How is it D?" I pointed to Dawn again.
"Tricky, Tricky, Tricky, Tricky,
It's Tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time,
It's Tricky...Tricky, Tricky, Tricky, Tricky, huh!" I made my manliest man-grunt at the "huh!"
"When I wake up people take up mostly all of my time,
I'm not singing, phone keep ringing cause I make up a rhyme,
I'm not bragging, people nagging cause they think I'm a star,
Always tearing what I'm wearing, I think they're going too far," I tugged at my clothes all sexy-like playfully at Dawn and she busted out laughing.
"A girl named Carol follows Daryll every gig we play,
Then D dissed her and dismissed her, now she's jocking Jay,
I ain't lying, girls be crying cause I'm on TV,
They even bother my poor father cause he's down with me...
"It's Tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time,
It's Tricky...How is it?" I nudged Serendipity this time. She got all red in the face, but started singing the next part with us.
"Tricky, Tricky, Tricky, Tricky,
It's Tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time,
It's Tricky...Tr-tr-tr-tr-tr-tricky, Tr-Tr-Tr-Tricky, Tr-tr-tr...
We are not thugs"
"we don't use drugs!" shouted Dawn by herself.
I started doing separate parts and Dawn would do what's left. "But you assume"
"On your own"
"They offer coke"
"And lots of dope"
"But we just leave it alone!" We yelled together. Serendipity was quiet again by now.
"It's like that y'all"
"Y'all!" shouted Dawn again by herself.
She joined me again. "But we don't quit!"
"You keep on" I waited for Dawn to pick up the next part.
"Rock!" She nailed it.
I went for my part immediately. "Shock!"
"Cause this is it..." We joined each other again for those final lyrics before the long instrumental that lasts until the end.
Remi half giggled, half chuckled at me by the end of the song. "Nice dance moves, March."
Oh yeah, so I was dancing the whole time...I can't just sit there and sing to an awesome song like that! I have to stand up and shake it! I made a cool break dancing/breaking pose at the end of "bother my poor father..." that really brought the giggles out of Remi.
"What can I say? I finally found a song I liked." I smirked and sat back down.
I also got to flirt a bit with Dawn, who always seems to be up for some messing around here-and-there, and to be honest, I winked at Serendipity a few times to make her blush. If Jam were here, she'd kill me for breaking rule #1, but she's not, so I don't care! Haha Jam, haha!
Bruno Mars's evil Lazy Song with its stupid "oh this is great" line about meaningless sex came on and I groaned.
It's tricky to rock a rhyme to most of the crap songs of today, that's for sure.
