Sapphire was never one for glory. The mysterious Viking kept to herself, which made her favorable among most Vikings. Especially Gobber, her mentor, and uncle.

Of course Sapphire had seen Hiccup hit a Night Fury, so curiosity got the best of her as she followed slipping down the tree with ease. Her feet not making any sudden sounds as she made her way through the forest. Dodging fallen branches as she jumped with ease her black hair making it hard to spot her which came as an advantage. Sapphire blended nicely as she pulled her hood close hiding the secret that would get her kicked out of the village for sure, but that was 3 years ago. Even now she kept to herself, and her dragon Rogue. The last Lightning Shade.

Sapphire new from the beginning Hiccup was different than the others. He was more like his mother than anything, and Sapphire knew that only because of Silvio, her mother. They were great friends until Sapphire's mother disappeared the same night Valka did. Tragic yes, but as Sapphire grew she knew exactly why, especially after the stories her Uncle told her, of the way her mother had a way with the beasts. Never one to hurt them, but instead tame them.

As a child, Sapphire was as bubbly as her mother, until she turned 5. Suddenly thrust into a world she only heard stories of, Sapphire learned to keep secrets, and to keep to herself. She didn't remember much of her first month of being 5. The only evidence being the wings and the scars that littered her back. She closed off all ties from people she knew and stuck to occasionally helping Gobber, but mainly staying in the library learning everything she could about the dragons and about herself. She learned to control her strength, the only thing she had discovered, for now. She was light on her feet, learning to find a balance between strength and grace.

Sapphire always had a way with the creatures. Never really connecting, understanding that one day the Vikings would come around. She was also a loner, not one for sticking to a crowd, or in this case a flock of dragons. Take for example the beautiful Night Fury. Sapphire ran from one trail to another, until the moon disappeared behind the branches of trees. A candle Sapphire had used many times sat on a branch closest to a cove she had discovered not too long ago. Lighting it with a match she kept in her pocket lit the cave she moved from the secret passage and down the rocks with stealth.

She heard the whimper of a dragon, and on instinct, she moved forward.

Dropping to the sand the Night Fury's head shot up with alert, it did not attack but instead acted as if she were an ally. All dragons were this way when Sapphire approached them. Knowing this dragon would most likely become close to Hiccup, she decided not to give it a name, but only to befriend him. The dragon instantly leaned into her touch, finding a friend, something Night Fury's rarely did. For once, Sapphire felt at home.

Then came the announcement of her mother's death. It was expected really, but the new guest on Berk wasn't.

After a long day of watching the Viking teens train, Sapphire walked past the cove as she heard the dragon struggle to fly. Farther from the village and close to the edge of the forest.

A slight rattle broke her out of her concentration, and when she looked up a figure covered in all leather stood to the side. Two dragons at its heels.

"Your mother sent her best regard," sent, past tense.

"She's dead?" Sapphire questioned cold, she had been waiting for this. Emotion was not something she felt anymore.

"Draco's army shot her right out of the sky. Her dragon only survived," A black dragon stood on all fours proudly.

"This is Rogue, she's the last of her kind the Lighting Shades," Sapphire approached the gentle dragon and reached out her hand as if to pet her. She then turned last second knowing dragons liked the attention, Rogue nudged her shoulder and Sapphire leaned away only for the dragon to lean forward.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Rogue," Sapphire slightly smiled as she reached into her hood for a piece of meat.

Rogue ate her full happily.

"Your mother was right," the person in all leather muttered almost as if remembering.

"What do I call you?" Sapphire faced the guest on Berk.

"Just Val,"

"It's a pleasure to meet Hiccup's mother," Sapphire reached out her hand and the women took it gratefully.

"How is he?" She asked gripping on tightly to Sapphire's hand.

"Just like you," Sapphire answered as she thought of the new friend Hiccup made.

"That's reassuring," Valka chuckled as she remembered how she could never kill a dragon.

"Believe me, it is. I'm sure you have a dragon nest to protect," Sapphire reminded the Healer of the dragons.

"Yes, take care of Rogue," Valka mounted her dragon and flew off silence then enveloped the forest.

"Come on Rogue," hearing its name the dragon followed the black haired Viking down towards the Cove were Hiccup was most likely drawing and the Night Fury stayed.

"Hiccup, you mind if Rogue stays down here?" Sapphire questioned the drawing Viking.

"No problem," he mumbled without even looking up.

"Wow," finally looking up Hiccup admired the dragon as it skillfully played with the Night Fury occasionally falling into the lake.

Sapphire knew Hiccup even if she didn't admit it. That may have been the reason why she was always by his side after he lost his leg. As time past, Astrid and Hiccup grew closer and Sapphire knew it was time for her to explore the world. So with a letter goodbye, she mounted her dragon and left in the night.

That was 2 years ago, and here Sapphire was older, maturer and wiser. The wind blew through her hair as her black hood laid on her shoulder. A mask graced her features hiding the freckles she loved the most and showing her dark and menacing purple eyes. She hovered proudly a slight smile across her face as she aided the healer of the dragons in saving the injured and captured creatures she had grown to love.

"Come on, Cloudjumper!" A voice rattled her out of her thoughts.

"Ready Rogue?" Sapphire whispered petting her dragon playfully.

A grunt was all she heard, "Oh come on, we've practiced this a thousand of times," Sapphire smirked as Rogue hovered near the small fortress.

Out of sight, Sapphire slipped from her dragon's saddle and glided through the air. Landing on the wooden floor Sapphire quickly moved from her position at hearing the guards. A whimper was all Sapphire needed before she burst into action, slicing the wood open of every trap in sight.

"Hey!" A voice yelled getting closer.

"NOW Rogue!" At that command, the dragon flew by and Sapphire jumped landing expertly onto the saddle as ice split through the fortress tearing it to pieces.

"WE'll find you!" a voice growled from high above. A man hung from an icicle he swung his fist angrily before giving up.

"Yeah we'll see about that," Sapphire grinned as she gripped onto her reins and guided the dragons far away from the clutches of Draco.
