"Uh, h-hold on. Wait just a minute," Shocked hiccup followed the gallant warrior, trying to catch up.
I take a shortcut finding the greenier quicker. On the opposite side of the room Hiccup later emerges awe on his face.
"This is where you've been for 20 years?"
"You-you've been rescuing them," he stated as he looked around following the flow of dragons.
"Unbelievable," I read his lips from across the room.
"I have someone who's been exploring for the past 2 years, Saph," at hearing my name I mount Rogue and fly across the room bowing at the king before landing just to the left of Hiccup.
"Sapphire?" He grinned as he pulled me in for a hug.
"Kind of need to breathe," I wheeze as I pat his back.
"Oh, sorry, it's just wow. You've grown so much, and you've been here the whole time with my mother!?" Hiccup whispered the last part gesturing to the smiling women.
"Indeed, and I don't know if you remember Rogue," at hearing her name the Lightening Shade stopped her teasings of the Night Fury and rushed over crushing Hiccup from her hug.
"Woah," He mumbled as he gently pets the dragon.
"So, you're not upset?" Val questioned nervously.
"What? No. I-I don't know. I... It's a bit much to get my head around, to be frank," Finally gathering his thoughts.
"It's not every day you find out your mother and best friend are some kinds of... crazy, feral, vigilante dragon ladies," I kind of like that description.
"Oh... Well... At least we're not boring, right?" Val stepped forward knowing how boring some mothers could be.
"Well, I suppose there is that... one specific thing,"
"Do-do you like it?" Val questions hopeful.
"I- I don't have the words,"
"C- can I..." Hiccup nods as he watches his mother lean closer to his dragon.
"Oh, he's beautiful. Oh, oh, incredible. He might very well be the last of his kind," The Night Fury enjoyed the attention he was getting as he flipped over.
"Oh... and look, he's your age," she said counting the fins on his neck.
"Wow," he wonders in awe.
"No wonder you get along so well," she smiled finally happy.
"Oh, yeah? Oh, yeah?" She babied him as they moved as one.
"And retractable teeth,"
"How did you manage...?" This odd to be an interesting story.
"I found him in the woods,"
"He was shot down and wounded," Where's the whole story, Hiccup? I smirked as I thought how his mother would feel.
Disappointed in the dragon's mistreatment Valka stood, "This Snafflefang lost his leg to one of Draco Bludvist's iron traps. This Raincutter had her wing sliced by razor netting,"
Walking towards various and kind dragons, "And this, oh, poor Hobblegrunt was blinded by a tree snare... and then left to die alone and scared,"
Finally coming closer to the Night Fury's fin, "And what of this? Did Draco or his trappers do this, too?" Oh boy.
"Oh. Yeah," Hiccup paused as he chooses his next words carefully, "Well, crazy thing is... I'm actually the one who shot him down," Valka looked quite surprised.
"Hey, it's-it's okay, though. He got me back. Right, bud? You couldn't save all of me, could you?" He played with his dragon teasingly.
"You just had to make it even. So peg leg," He proudly showed his mother.
"What did your father think of your Night Fury friend?" Val joined in on the fun. I sat on the side leaning against a rock. Rogue sat at my feet once again getting rest.
"Oh, he-he didn't take it all that well. But then, he changed. They all did. Pretty soon, everyone back home had dragons of their own," he explained.
"If only it were possible," not believing for a second.
"No, really,"
"Believe me, I tried, as well, but people are not capable of change, Hiccup,"
Valka gestured to the dragons and me as she spoke, "Some of us... Were just born different. Berk was a land of kill or be killed, but I believed peace was possible,"
Not wanting to invade her personal privacy, I stealthy walk out of the room. Pausing to grab my sword I then run towards a cave I found as I was exploring. I shut the flaps letting Val know what I was about to do.
Finally, I slip off my jacket and my shirt leaving me in white wrappings. My wings come out at the full span. I took a minute to breathe as I evened my breaths and then pulled for my daggers. Then using my hands I threw hitting target's one after another and even ones high above.
"Feeding time, Sapphire!" Valka's voice broke me from my concentration.
"Right," I yelled back as I ran to each target and pulling at the knives and then refolding my wings and slipping on my cloak.
Rogue flies through the flap happily and I settled onto her as we fly through the caves meeting Hiccup and Val.
"Ready," The wind blew in my hair as Hiccup screamed happily and Toothless did the same.
The sun shines bright and as I turn I see the rest of the dragons following us at a high speed. Finally closer to a snowy inclined we hover above the water.
"Hey, I-I thought we were going to eat," Hiccup questioned as he looked at the huge crowd of Dragons.
"Oh, we are," Val answered smugly as she looked down. Hiccup followed her eyes only to see the King in all his glory rising from the deep waters.
Emerging from the water his mouth filled to the brim with the delicacy of the dragons. Falling back down he spurts fish from his mouth causing fish to rain from the sky.
Rogue flipped around as I gripped onto her torso allowing her to eat to her full. I spread my arms as I feel the wind pick up in my coat. Closing my eyes I allow Rogue to take over at speeds unlikely to man. I feel my wings inch to be used but I keep them under control. To my left, I hear Hiccup as he glides through the air with his dragon enjoying every moment of lunch.
We settle down near the snowy inclined allowing the beast to rest before the fun. Hiccup sits in the snow his map opened for his mother to see. I sit to the side allowing them to have the time they missed for the past 20 years.
"And then, from Dragon Island, I found this archipelago..." Hiccup points to the map, "There," he explains.
He looks up only to find his mother using her staff as a pencil to draw in the snow, copying the map from her human eye.
"Whoa," Hiccup admires as he watches his mother expertly dance as it is the snow.
Then comes Toothless icicle in mouth as he mimics the strange antics of the humans. Drawing who knows what on the ground. The others laugh at the clueless dragon continues to draw not realizing how difficult it would be to get the icicle unstuck from his mouth. Rogue watches humor clear on her face.
Then we mount the dragons once Toothless is un-stuck. And fly, fly away from the snowy inclined and towards the water where the king sat proudly overlooking his subjects as it were.
