Ava sat Colin’s plate of dinner in front of him and sat down across from him.

“How was your day,” she asked him.

“It was good.”

She nodded her head and played around with her food. This was how most of their nights went now. Colin took a sip of his water and eyed Ava.

“You got a phone call from some girl today, her name was Naomi.”

Colin knew that she was accusing her of being the girl that he was sleeping with by the tone of her voice, she didn’t always have to come out and say things.

“I’ll call her back later.”

“No, Colin call her back now, matter of fact put her on speaker.”

Colin put his fork down and rubbed his temples, he wasn’t doing this with Ava right now, he was trying to enjoy his dinner and their son was upstairs sleeping.

“Ava don’t start not right now.”

Ava huffed and rolled her eyes.

“I’ll just call her my damn self then.”

She walked past Colin and he grabbed her arm pulling her into his lap.

“LET ME GO,” she yelled at him.

“What is your problem Ava?”

“YOU, THAT’S WHAT’S WRONG WITH ME, STOP ACTING LIKE YOU’RE NOT GOING BEHIND MY BACK.”

“Ava if you don’t lower your damn voice.”

“WHAT’S GONNA HAPPEN HUH?”

Carson’s loud cries filed the room through the baby monitor and Colin eyed Ava.

“Are you happy now?”

“I will be when you call back your whore,” she answered getting off of his lap to go see about her son.

She shut his door and picked him up. When he went back to sleep, she put him down in his crib and started crying herself. Ava knew for a fact that Colin wasn’t cheating on her, but what was she supposed to think when he wouldn’t come home at night or hadn’t really touched her since their son had been born. Ava had seen the women that flocked to Colin and knew that she would never be able to compete with the likes of them. No matter how many times he told her he loved her, she just couldn’t believe it anymore.

Colin heard Naomi’s voice come through the phone after the third ring.

“How is everything coming along?”

“Great all we’re waiting on is the mirror that you ordered and everything will be good to go.”

“Alright thanks so much for doing this for me.”

“No problem, I hope that she likes it.”

“You and me both.”

The two hung up and Colin turned around to see Ava silently crying.

“Who was that on the phone?”

“Ava, why do you think I’m cheating on you.”

She pushed her hair back and shook her head.

“I don’t wanna talk about this.”

He sighed and pulled out his cell phone dialing a number.

“Hello?”

“Lindsey can you come and watch Carson for me.”

“Sure I’ll be there soon.”

“Thanks.”

“Why did you call Lindsey?”

“Go upstairs and put on some shoes.”

“For what?”

“Just do it Ava damn.”

She narrowed her eyes at him, but did as he asked. When the doorbell rung, he went to let Lindsey in.

“She still thinks you’re cheating on her huh?”

“Yup.”

Lindsay, like everyone else in the family knew what Colin was really up to, but he wanted to surprise Ava. Since she was hell bent on saying that Colin was cheating on her , her surprise would just have to be ruined. Ava walked down the stairs and waved weakly to Lindsay before following Colin out of the door. Whatever the hell he was doing she wasn’t in the mood for it.

“This is what I’ve been doing when I’m not working.”

Ava looked around the room.

“Why did you bring me here, what is this place for?”

“It’s your new studio.”

She smiled, but it disappeared suddenly.

“But this still doesn’t mean you’re not cheating on me.”

“You know what Ava I’m tired of fighting this battle with you if you want to believe that I’m cheating on you go right ahead, but when I really do start cheating on you don’t act surprised.”

“It’s not a battle Colin, this is real life.”

“Ava, I’m walking on eggshells trying to please YOU and your ungrateful ass still doesn’t appreciate a damn thing I do for you.”

“You’re only doing this because you feel guilty about cheating on me.”

Colin walked closer to her.

“Listen to me and listen to me good, I’m. Not. Cheating. On. You, but if you want me to I very well could. Do you really think just because I’m married I couldn’t call up the same girls I was smashing before we hooked up, don’t play this cheating game with me Ava, because I promise if I wanted to break your little heart I could.”

He left Ava standing in the studio thinking to herself. His words cut her deeper than she thought they would, she supposed that he was right, but she still didn’t want to believe that he was completely innocent just yet. She walked outside and slid into Colin’s car.

“Can you drop me off at my mother’s please?”

Colin shook his head. That was one of their problems, instead of talking to him about things she would always run over to her mother’s place and stay for a week, although the longest that she ever stayed was a month. She of course would come and check on their son, but only if Colin wasn’t around. That to him was the biggest slap in the face. Ava would start everything and when she could no longer deal with the mess she started she would run away.

“Whatever you say Ava.”

She put her head on the window and watched all the buildings go by in a blur. When Colin pulled up to her mother’s house she got out of the car and he waited until she was inside of the house before he pulled of and headed home.
