It had been two weeks since Ava had been released from the hospital after her panic attack. The doctor told her she wasn't pregnant and had a false postive. Everyone had come to see her, except Colin, although he had sent her flowers and a get well soon balloon. She really hadn't expected to see him, so the fact that he had sent her what he did had completely surprised her. She had heard rumors that Colin had a new lady friend and Ava wasn't really sure how she felt about that. Of course Colin deserved the best, so she would mind her own business. She checked her mailbox and when she flipped through the envelopes her heart dropped. Walking inside she quickly opened the envelope and her worst fear was coming to life. Colin had sent her divorce papers and his section was already signed.

"Do you think she'll sign them?"
Colin looked over at Mariah as they laid in bed.
"To be honest I don't really know, I just want the best for our son."
Mariah traced Colin's chest tattoo and began thinking. Her and Colin had been kicking it since last year and thought that eventually he would crawl back to Ava. When he knocked on her door two weeks ago, she was surprised to see him and even more surprised that he had sex with her that night. Now she really wanted this divorce to be finalized more than anything so that she could be the new Mrs. Kaepernick. All of a sudden she had the best idea. She would talk to Ava and force her to sign the papers once she saw how happy Colin was with her. Colin played in her hair, just like he used to do with Ava's and Mariah snuggled into his chest, kissing on his neck when Carson called out to him.
"Let me up baby."
When she did, Colin walked into Carson's room and picked him up.
"Daddy, I want mommy."
"Buddy it's my week with you."
Carson started to cry and Colin sighed. Every time Colin went over to Mariah's, Carson would cry. Colin pulled out his phone and dialed Ava's number.
"Hello."
"Mommy," Carson cried into the phone.
"What's the matter?"
"I want you, not daddy."
"Carson it's daddy's week with you, have fun with him ok?"
Carson cried louder.
"Carson Rand Kaepernick, shut that fuss up right now!"
Even Colin jumped at Ava's tone. Hardly ever did she raise her voice.
"I love you, now go to sleep."
"Ok, mommy."
Ava hung up and Colin looked down at his phone. He knew that Ava was just being childish about the divorce.
"Baby come back to bed."
"I'm putting Carson to bed, here put my phone on it's charger."
"Ok."
When she got back to bed, she scrolled until she saw Ava's name and put the number into her phone. She decided that she would meet with her tomorrow.

Ava was sipping tea sitting at her Starbucks table when a woman who looked a little younger than her sat opposite of her.
"Can I help you," Ava asked arching a eyebrow.
"Yes you can, stay the hell away from Colin and just sign the divorce papers."
Ava sat back in her chair and looked at the woman.
"I can't do that I'm sure that if you know Colin then you know that we have a son."
"Give him full custody and leave Cali, that's the only way he'll be truly happy, your like a dark cloud hanging over his head."
"You're cute but I want Colin to tell me this himself."
"Why do you think I'm here he doesn't want to see you, and he also wanted me to tell you that I'm pregnant."
Ava nodded her head and walked out of the coffee shop. Mariah sat back feeling accomplished.

Helen barged into Ava's loft and walked up the stairs banging on her locked door.
"Ava Noelle, open this damn door."
"Go away."
Helen ran her hand across the front of the door until she found the key and unlocked the bedroom door. Ava was laid on the bed with boxes of tissues and listening to I Wish, by Toni Braxton. Helen cut the music off and looked at her granddaughter.
"You sitting around here feeling for your self and for what? This shit is YOUR doing , no one else's."
"He had his girlfriend come talk to me, he doesn't even respect me anymore."
"Why should he, you never respected him, hell I'm surprised it took him this long to finally leave you."
Ava couldn't believe that her grandmother was sitting her telling her off when she was clearly suffering from a broken heart.
"What am I supposed to do now?"
"Focus on being a better mother to Carson and stop crying over a man that YOU pushed away when all he wanted to do was love all of you."
"God, I was so stupid thinking that our marriage was going to be like my parents'."
Helen threw a pillow at Ava.
"Damn it Ava, I just don't know how many times I have to tell you, just because your parents didn't work out doesn't mean that your marriage would be the same way, but you forced that situation to occur in your life. When Carson feels the same way you did years down the line, I hope and pray that I'm alive to tell him that his mother was a stupid little fool she didn't appreciate his father."
Helen walked out of the loft and left Ava alone to think. Deciding her grandmother was right she walked into her bathroom, washing her face. If Colin and her were about to get a divorce she at least wanted them to co parent, which brought her to her next thought. She would sign the divorce papers, but only if Colin agreed to see a counselor for a few weeks first.
