*One Year Later*

One year, that's how long it had been. Although Ava had wanted the divorce neither had went to talk to a lawyer about actually filing, so to anyone who asked the two were separated. Carson had grown up the past year in more ways than one and Ava blamed herself for the demise of her family because it was her fault.

"Mama," Carson shook Ava until she looked at him.

"Yes baby?"

"Daddy."

"He's on his way baby."

Carson clapped his hands and grabbed her skirt tugging on it.

"Pack mama pack."

"You don't need to pack baby, you have things at daddy's house remember."

Carson nodded his head and climbed into Ava's lap.

"Daddy and mama together."

Ava looked into her son's eyes and saw the same brown ones his father had.

"Maybe one day."

The doorbell rung and Carson jumped down running to open it. He was a little disappointed when Ashley smiled down at him.

"Hi little man."

He waved his hand and climbed back into Ava's lap. About five minutes later the doorbell rung again and Carson ran to the door to answer it.

"Daddy!"

"My boy."

Ava watched as Colin embraced their son and smiled.

"Hey Ava, Ashley."

"Hey," the ladies greeted.

Colin looked at Ava a little longer than he expected. He loved her and believed that one day they would get back together.

"See ya next Saturday Ava."

She nodded her head and squatted so she could hug her son goodbye.

"Be on your best behavior for daddy."

"Ok."

"I love you," she kissing his forehead.

"I love you too mama."

When Carson and Colin left Ava's loft, Ashley instructed her to sit down.

"When are you going back to that man?"

Ava sifted in her seat.

"I don't know what you are talking about."

"Yes you do, Ava it's clear as day that you're still in love with that man and vice versa."

"I'm not ready to go back to that place just yet, I know I have a tendency to start shit and then run away when it blows up in my face."

"Well since you said it, I have to agree."

The women laughed and Ava began to feel sick. She made a mental note to make a doctors appointment soon.

Colin watched his son as he played in the jungle gym at Chuckie Cheeses. He of course was getting pointed out by other people there, but he was here with his son and declined picture request. Women would stop by his table, but when they saw he still wore his ring they walked away. Colin smiled as his son came running over to him.

"Daddy can I have a pepperoni pizza please?"

"Sure little man."

Carson climbed into the seat opposite of Colin.

"Daddy order me a Dr. Pepper stat."

Colin chucked and shook his head. His son was picking up on Ava's habits and he didn't know if that was a good or bad thing. When the food arrived Colin and Carson prayed over their meal and dug in.

"How was your week with mommy?"

"It was good, but mommy has been sick a lot."

"What do you mean?"

"I hear her throwing up in the mornings."

Colin stopped chewing on his food and looked at Carson.

"How long has this been going on?"

Carson shrugged his shoulders before answering his father.

"Since Monday."

Colin thought to himself for a minute. It couldn't be or could it?

*************************************

Ava looked at the calendar the next morning, and ran her fingers through her hair. Her period had been a week late today and she felt like a ton of bricks had just fell on her chest. She was pregnant, with Colin's baby. Things for them were complicated and them still sleeping together only made matters worse. As if on que, her doorbell rung. As soon as she opened the door, Colin stepped inside.

"Are you?"

She shook her head.

"I'm not sure, but I have a test upstairs."

Colin placed Carson on the sofa and followed Ava upstairs. When she came out of the bathroom she looked like she'd just saw a ghost and Colin knew what that meant.

"I'll make a doctors appointment for you."

Ava waved him off.

"It's your week with Carson I'll take care of everything."

Colin watched Ava as she walked over to the bed.

"Ava I seriously want you to think of coming home and us being a family again," he said rubbing her flat belly.

"Colin you deserve better than me."

Colin looked at her and rubbed his temples. He knew that Ava wasn't over him, not even just a little bit and that's what he didn't understand when it came to her.

"Ava I love you so much just come home, it's not the same without you, it's been the worst year of my life and not bring able to come home and see your smiling face or having our son run to me makes me feel empty."

Ava looked at him with tears in her eyes.

"Say something anything."

He waited for her to reply but when she didn't say anything he knew what her answer was. She wouldn't be coming home and she wouldn't be sharing his last name anymore. He got off the bed and walked to the door.

"Get a lawyer because I'll be the one officially filing for a divorce, that's what you wanted right."

As Colin slammed the door Ava laid in bed and cried until her head hurt and her eyes felt like they would fall out. She deemed herself unloveable and damaged goods. She finally had to admit to herself that she'd let her parents' marriage come in between hers and their failures were now becoming hers. The sudden reality made her feel even sicker as she curled into a ball and began to struggle to breathe. She grabbed her phone and called 9-1-1 and managed to tell them where she was before the room went black.

This chapter is an intense one, well I think so anyway. But the song this chapter was inspired by is in the media section. What do you guys think of this chapter, and how are you feeling about Ava and Colin? Let me know in the comment section.
