Chapter 3 – Getting ready

Yuki's POV

I gathered the information about them and I looked at the clock and it was just 3pm. I called my so-called uncle for he was the one taking care of me after my parents died.

“Hi Yuki! I miss you. It’s been years since you last came. When will you come again?” He said in a happy voice.

“You’re exaggerating. I was just there three days ago. Anyway, I’m going to borrow Yukio later. So I’ll visit.”

“Really?! But…”

“But what?”

“You’re not going to visit me, you’re just picking up Yukio.” He was starting to sob like a child. I just sigh.

“I’ll sleep there after my mission. Is that all right?” I said like defeated.

“Yipee! There will be a feast because you’re going to sleep here.”

“Don’t need one and will never need one. See you later.” I cut the line.

I put phone back and rest my back in my bed. I covered my eyes with my right arm and took a nap.

After the incident…

I was lying in the futon and wearing a yukata. I’m still in shock. I don’t want to believe it but I need to accept it. Everything I had was lost for a second. I don’t know why I’m still spared. I got up and went slide the door. There was a Japanese garden with a pond in the middle. I sat and thought of something deeply.

“Are you okay now?” A man with a smile on his face said.

“Thank you for helping me. But why?” I asked.

“I want to return the favor your parents have done. Even if I don’t have one, I’ll help you no matter what. We’re neighbors aren’t we?”

“I was useless. I haven’t done anything to protect them. I shouldn’t live. I…” I said crying.

He hugged me with his gentle arms and said.

“You are spared for a reason. One day, you will know it. Then, you will decide the path you will walk in as you go on the journey. Do you want to be strong?” He asked me. I nodded looking at his eyes.

“You have such determination. I will teach you everything that I know. Just like a parent, I will protect you. You can call me Father if you want. Just don’t forget, I’m here for you, alright?” He said.

“I don’t want to call you father. How about uncle instead? After all, I don’t remember having one.”

He pouted. “I was so excited when I thought it would be okay if you call me father. But uncle will do.” He said with a big grin.

“Yosh! Let’s eat. You’ll be staying here as long as you want okay?” He said smiling.

The training…

“Harder! Swing the sword harder!” He said shouting at me. It was already two weeks after the incident and at the same time started my training in swordsmanship. He becomes strict when it comes to combats. Four hours passed and were still not finished. Swinging the wooden sword harder resulted to destroying the pole of the dummy.

“Okay. Your sword training is finished for today. After 2 hours, we’ll head to the basics of archery. For now, let’s play!”

Every combat skill I learned came from him. I even adopted his bubbly personality. If there was a reason why I changed, it was because of another incident…

I woke up and it was already 7pm. I took everything I need for the mission tonight. As far as I investigated, there will be a meeting held in a secret place wherein all of my targets are there at 10pm. I started to walk towards uncle’s house.

I opened the door and called him. He was wearing his yukata and smiled at me. He ran and hugged me as if I didn’t visit for years.

“I missed you! How are you? Are you eating well? Are you bullied in school? Tell me.”

“I’m fine, I’m fine, and I’m not. I’m here to get Yukio. I’m going to get ready for the mission.” I released myself from his hug and went to the restroom to change – black turtle neck, black gloves, black fitting pants, black boots, black long coat. I put red-colored contacts and looked at myself in the mirror and saw myself as the Black Shadow. I went out and I just saw my uncle sitting by the garden and looking at the full moon together with Yukio. I also sat beside Yukio and also looked at the moon.

“You’re not planning to quit?” My uncle started with a serious tone.

“I can’t. I still need to look for the person who killed my parents.”

“I know you want revenge. You should control yourself.”

“I’ve mastered controlling them for years, uncle.” I said looking at him with blank expression.

“Not that kind of expression. If that other incident happened, you won’t be like that.” He responded with the worried expression.

“It happened already. Besides, I don’t want to repeat the same mistake again, so that’s why I’m trying to live independently. I don’t want to see people precious to me getting hurt again.” I stood and called Yukio. Yukio is a Siberian Husky who is also trained in combat. His fur is color black and white with gray eyes.

I looked at the clock and it was 9:00pm

“We’ll be back before midnight. Don’t wait for us.”

I said as we went off.
