Jay and I walked towards Mal's locker. "Hey," Jay began. "Are you okay?" he asked.
I looked at him with a confused look. "Yeah. Why?"
"Evie told me you were tossing and turning last night while you were sleeping," he responded. "It's usually what you do when you have nightmares. She wanted me to check on you."
"Eh, it wasn't that bad," I replied. "I've had worse dreams."
"Are you sure you're gonna be fine?"
"Yeah," I replied. "I promise you, Jay, I'm going to be fine."
"Hey Jay," a random kid in the hall said. "Are you ready for the big game today?"
"Heck yeah," he replied.
"Great. You're coming out to support the team, right Heather?"
"Y-yeah," I replied.
"Great. Catch you guys later," he said as he ran off.
"Do you find it weird that a lot of the Auradon kids are treating us nicer?" I asked. "I don't know why, but I kind of like it. I don't even know if I want to steal the wand anymore."
Jay put his arm around me. He has always been a big brother figure to me. "Maybe these kids are starting to see we can be like them. I know what you mean, I'm starting to like it too." Mal walked over to her locker, and we walked over to her. "Are you feeling kind of weird about this?" Jay asked Mal. "I mean, it's not so bad here, you know." I nodded my head in agreement.
"Are you insane?" Mal asked us. "Long live evil!" she said, making Jay and I flinch back. "You guys are mean! You're awful! You're bad news! Snap out of it!" Mal said, snapping her fingers at us.
"Thanks, Mal," Jay began. "I needed that." Jay began to walk away. "Good luck with the fairy," he whispered to me.
"Wha-Jay," I began. "Hey Mal, you got the cookies, right?"
"Yep, right here," she said, holding up the little zip-lock bag."
We spot Ben and Audrey talking just a little steps away. "Bye Bennyboo," we hear Audrey end with before she struts away.
"Hey Bennyboo," Mal called to Ben as she closed her locker. I giggle a little as Mal approaches the prince.
"Hey," Ben said with a smile.
"We made a batch of cookies. Do you want one?"
"They're double chocolate chip," I added.
"Oh, I, uh, I've got a big game. I don't eat before a big game. But thank you so, so much. Thank you. Next time. Next time."
"No, yeah," Mal began. "I completely understand. Be careful of treats offered by kids of villains."
"No, no, no," Ben began. I knew Mal was just trying to manipulate him like she does with everybody else.
"No, I'm sure every kid in Auradon knows that," Mal continued.
"No, that's not it. No, no, no, I...I really do..."
"No, I get it. You're cautious. That's smart. Oh well, more for me I guess," Mal said, pretending to eat a cookie.
"No, no, hey," Ben said, taking the cookie from Mal. He took a bite of it. "See that? Totally trust you. Totally."
I began backing up. I saw Evie, Jay, and Carlos walking slowly up to me. "How are they?" Mal asked Ben.
"They're good. They're great! They're amazing! They're, uh...I mean, they're chewy and, and you know, they-is that walnuts? I love walnuts. I mean, uh, you know, the...the chocolate...the chocolate...the, the chocolate chips are...I'm sorry. Um...uh, they're....they're warm and soft. And they're sweet. Mal, have you always had those little golden flecks in your eyes?"
