I try and blink the distraught from my mind. But my mind keeps wrapping around the same thing. Kai took down the target and in some way, he saved me. I realize we had been standing there for too long, I must say something.
"You didn't have to do that."
"What do you mean? I was saving you. I would think you would be more grateful."
"I had it under control."
"Yeah sure you did. You were gonna take down a six foot man," a hint of sarcasm in his voice.
"I can take care of myself. I don't need you to save me."
"Look princess, I saved you and that's all there is..."
Suddenly, his sentence is cut short as he falls to the ground with a thud. Where his figure stood, stands Daniel with fury in his eyes and a bloody rock in his hands. Words flow from my tongue in a careless stream.
"Finally I get to take you down without any disruptions."
"Or we can continue our friendship," he says this with he smile from earlier, the one that had frightened me.
"I'll kill you before you touch me again."
And with that I lunge for him, striking his chest causing gasping from my opponent. Without hesitation I grab his wrist, twist it behind his back, and break his arm. He cowers on he ground in pain, only feeding my energy. I strike my knee into his jaw, causing his jaw to shatter. Once all he can do is speak, he begs for mercy. How pitiful. I take a dagger from the inside of boot and stab it through his heart. His body lay there still and lifeless, and all I can feel is joy.
After what seems like decades, I remember Kai on the ground bleeding. I turn and kneel down to him. I could easily leave him here to die, but for some reason I don't feel joy as I did with Daniel. I decide that in order to receive intel, he must be alive. I take him to a secret warehouse on the outskirts of the city. Once we arrive I lay him on a bed in one of our safe rooms. I leave to retrieve medical supplies, when I return Kai has fallen to the ground. He's trying to recover himself, I realize. As quick as he stood is just how long it took him to fall to the ground. I run to his side and lift him back to the bed. From the medical supplies, I take a damp wash cloth and dab it against his wound. As he lays there motionless, there's something that sparks inside of me. There's a feeling inside of me that I've never felt before. I felt this with our first encounter, as well as in the alley tonight. This feeling is strange, it surges through me not in pain, but in the form of desire. This is new to me, this is something I don't understand.
