"Carter. Talk to me."

"Luke you killed my best friend go the fuck away!" I cursed and buried myself in the bed of the room where I lost my beloved friend.

"He was getting in the way of us."

"Your insane. I told you we would be nothing. we are done. What do you not understand?"

"I understand that we will be together when you get over this." He walks out the door, dragging Ashton's body with him.

In my head I'm gone. I'm paralyzed. My best friend has just been killed to help save me. He was partially my only hope. Knowing that I told Calum to stay away. I wanted to figure things out myself and get out of here. Letting Calum come and help would only lead him to end up like Ashton.

"Come on." Frank's head popped into view.

"What."

"Come on. We aren't leaving you alone up here." He then pulled me out of the bed by my arm and forcefully dragged me downstairs.

"I didn't like your friend anyway. He's better off dead."

With those words I swung and bashed him in the mouth.

"He could've been here! Alive! All you guys had to do was force him to leave! But instead you killed him! What the fuck is wrong with you guys!" Tears started to shred from my eyes and I made my way into the kitchen away from them.

Opening one of the drawers next to oven, there laid knives of different shape and organized from dullest to sharpest. I gazed over to the sharpest one and picked it up.

Slowly I slide down the cabinets and sat on my bottom tears still escaping my eye lids.

Thinking back, I remembered Ashton's secret he told me but never told anyone else. He was a cutter and he hid behind bracelets and hoodies. His childhood wasn't the best like mine but he went through more pain and depression than I ever experienced. I was strong, he was weak and passionate. And that's what people don't see. Ashton had a heart for everyone, discrimination wasn't his place. Ashton was a guy any girl would be lucky to have and shouldn't take for granted.

It hurt me to know my friend did this and I could've been there before talking it out with him and stopping him from ruining his skin. I couldn't stop him now.

Picking up the knife I ran it slowly over my left wrist and made marks dedicated to Ashton. With every in graving I shucked in breath through my teeth. The marks created a butterfly that was broken and bruised.

"It's beautiful." A voice said. As if he was right beside me. I turned and peered up at Ashton. He took a ghostly faded figure not actually presenting himself if he was actually here.

"How?"

"I'm not really here." He chuckled.

"I'm so sorry." I wrapped my arms around his neck pulling him closer.

"It's ok. I did it for you."

"Please don't leave." I begged, crying even louder

"I have to go. But I love you. Be strong love." He kissed my forehead and faded away slowly.

Getting the rest of my tears out, I looked back at my wrist that was covered in blood, dripping onto the floor creating a small puddle.

"Carter!" Luke's voice makes me jump up and place the knife back in the drawer.

"There you are." He grabbed me by my right wrist and made me follow him up to the guest bedroom.

"You need rest. Sleep." He pushed me onto the bed and walked out closing the door. Being silent I heard the locking of the door, as if he was keeping me in here like a prisoner.

Slipping into the covers, I ran my finger over the butterfly and pulled up my sweater enough so it was hidden.

"Goodnight Ashton." I whispered looking through the window where one star shined brightly out at me.

Calum's POV.

"He's always loved Carter but, he shouldn't have done this." Lea turns her head to look out the window.

"I know. I love her." The words slip out of my mouth.

"Calum." She turns to me in shock.

"Sorry, I didn't say anything."

"Yes you did." She smirks

"No."

"Yes."

"No."

"You love Carter."

"I didn't say that."

"You just did."

"Fine maybe I do."

"You do." She giggles

"Fine. Yes I'm deeply in love with Carter." I confess.

"I knew you did." She looks at me still with the smirk on her face.

"How?"

"When we were all little kids you would look at her a certain way."

"What is that suppose to mean?"

"You looked at her with passion Calum. You were in love from the start."

"She loved Luke."

"She didn't know what love was or is yet Calum." She turned to face the road.

"She won't love anymore."

"You have to teach her how to again." At those words, the drive grew silent leaving us both in thoughts and memories.

.....

"This is it." I opened the door to my condo with her bag in my hand.

"Sand Beach is beautiful. Even this condo is." She looks through the back window in the living room peering straight at the horizon on the beach.

"It is." I looked out with her.

"You know it's hard to forget about the old house you lived in with your parents." She giggled.

"That ole house." I laughed along with her.

"I'll go put your bags in the back." I walked down the hallway and threw her bags into the guest room where Ashton slept. I wonder where that knuckle head is. I haven't seen him in days.

I pick up my phone to call Ashton. it goes straight to voice mail. Where is that little shit? Don't get me wrong I love Ashton but it sucks when he doesn't answer his phone calls.

"Calum!" Lea calls me and I run into the living room to see shattered glass around her feet.

"I. Ummm. Was playing with your vase." She have me a guilty smile.

"It's ok. Come here." I laughed and picked her up from the glass and placed her onto the couch.

"So what's the plan?" She smiled at me once more and I went into details on my plan to get Carter back home.
