Chapter 22

Maddy's POV

It was almost dark now at this point, today had definitely been one of the longest and toughest days, but it was all worth it in the end. After we left the quarry we headed to Jason's house so he could shower and changer, then we would head to my house after, the plan was that we would get Chinese at the place where we had our first date. As we walked into his house, I parked my car and we headed inside, when we walked in we could see his dad in the kitchen, he was putting something on the fridge, Jason grabbed my hand and we walked into the kitchen to say hello. Jason's dad didn't even hear us come in he was too busy smiling and admiring what now looked like a newspaper clipping from and article. As we got closer I could now see that it was from the front page, there's not much that goes on in this town and when something does happen the newspapers are quick to get the info out. "Dad?" Jason asked quietly, his dad broke out of his trance, he turned and faced us, his smile showed nothing, but pride, I couldn't help, but wonder if he knows that Jason and I were the ones to save him. He must have because when I put out my hand for him to shake as a greeting, his dad grabbed my hand and Jason's arm and pulled us into a tight hug.

Jason patted his dad's back awkwardly with one hand, I've seen the way he and his dad are, they're not exactly close, so Jason was obviously a little uncomfortable from the hug, but he finally gave in and relaxed. When his dad finally let go of us he just stood there and stared at us for a couple seconds, he then laughed and ran his hand through his hair, "thank you" he said. Jason and I looked at one another, his dad definitely knew it was us, "dad" Jason stepped closer to his dad, but his dad stopped him short, he put his hands up, "don't worry, I won't tell anyone, no matter how much I want to. I won't even mention it to your mom, okay?" his dad said. "Thank you" Jason whispered, then wrapped his arms tightly around his dad, "how did you figure it out Mr. Scott?" I asked, Jason's dad put his hand, "please, call me Sam", he said, then continued, "I mean for starters, just look at you two, you're covered in dirt, bruises, and blood" he said, it was then we both noticed how bad we actually looked.

We both laughed, Jason's dad sighed, "well I'll let you two go...son, I'm very proud of you, you to Maddy" Jason's dad said, we both smiled, I shook his dad's hand again, and we turned and left. Jason grabbed my hand as we left and led me upstairs, once there I walked in and sat down on his bed while he closed the door, "you don't mind if I lay down while you shower and stuff?" I asked loudly, Jason had gone into his bathroom and turned on the water, he came back out, but without his shirt on. He walked closer to me until finally he was standing right in front of me, he put a finger under my chin and gently lifter up my face, he leaned in so close that I could feel the warmth from his breath, "I don't mind" he whispered then kissed my lips gently. I immediately closed my eyes, and put a hand to his face, then we broke apart and he went back to his bathroom. I laid down on his bed and snuggled up under one of the blankets, I was facing the opposite direction of his bathroom door, just to give him a little more privacy. I got my phone out and started texting Kimmie to let her know where I was and that after Jason was done we would be heading to our house.

Kim texted back letting me know that she went out to dinner with mom and dad, and she also said that they would be gone for a while, she made sure to add a winky face at the end of the text, which made me blush. Nothing is going to happen tonight, all that's going to happen is we're going to my house, I'm going to shower also and change and then we'll grab food, that's it. I didn't bother responding to her embaressing text, I clicked on the Instagram act and started scrolling through my feed, I heard Jason's bathroom door slide open, I put my phone on his side table, "is it safe to roll over?" I asked jokingly. Jason chuckled, "yes", he said, so I rolled over, he stood there wiping his hands on a hand towel, he had a bright smile on his face and he looked a lot cleaner. He continued smiling, which made me giggle a little, "what, why are you smiling like that?" I asked, he continued smiling and walked over to where I was laying. I scooted over a little to give him some room to sit, which he did. He put his hand on my forehead gently and caressed my hair, he was still smiling
