Us (The Talk)

Dear You,

You came.

Yesterday, after our little chat at the chapel,  we exchanged number and we become text mates. Oh my God! One of the things I wished for came true, that is, to have your number and exchanged messages such as simple greetings of good mornings and goodnights.

I was smiling the whole time that's why the Sisters and the children noticed it immediately. I told them that you will be visiting and that I want them all to meet him.

I didn't go to school today but tomorrow I'll sure be going and passed all the assignments that I've missed. Hyun will be handling it over to me after school and there is a great chance that you'll meet. I'm so excited about seeing you this afternoon!

Phew! I must say that this is a successful afternoon for me - being you, seeing my 'house' and family for the first time.

After class, you texted asking my address and I texted back. After 20 minutes...

You: Griffin, is this the correct address?
         139 Riverdale Drive?

Me: Yep! Are you there yet?

You: I'm actually standing in the gate right now??

Me: Come inside then. Are you driving your car? Just drive inside and I'll be waiting for you at the door.

I looked at my self in the mirror and I looked at what I'm wearing. A graphic shirt, black skinny jeans, and my converse...nothing major, just my usual self I mused.

I run downstairs and as I approach the door I saw you parking your car. It never ceases to amaze me on how gorgeous you look. A blue shirt, black jeans, converse shoes, and your dazzling smile.

I ushered you to come inside and meet my family for the first time.

Sister Aimee was rounding up the kids in the living room. When we approach her, she hugs you softly and welcoming you to our house.

"Gabe, meet my family. You've met three of my moms but there are more. There's Sister Thelma and others to mention. Now, these kids here are my brothers and sisters, this is April, Haley, Otis, Steven, Karl, Dawn, Morgan and Baby Zac. Welcome to Hope House." I looked at you and waited for your reaction but all you had is your dazzling smile at the kids.

"Hey, guys. How old are you bud?" You lowered yourself to Steven who is sitting on the couch.

"I'm 5. I'm waiting for mom and dad to pick me up but they are taking longer." His blue eyes looking at You innocently. You looked at me as if asking for help.

"Steve baby, a time will come that you will meet your new mom and dad. All of you." I kissed Steven's head and ruffled his hair.

"When?" Otis asked.

"We don't know when but that day will surely come. Look what happened to the twins Lukas and Loki. Just pray, okay?" They all nodded their heads and hug me.

"I'm always praying. One of them is praying that your booboo will disappear." Dawn kissed me on the cheek and surprises us all as she went to you and snuggle in your arms. A chorus of 'me too' came from the kids.

"Don't forget me. I prayed for you too." You chirped in.

"That's... Thank you pet. All of you. Thank you." I ducked my head and willed my emotion in check. I don't want to cry in front of the kids and especially to you.

"Now, why don't you give a tour to Gabe and show him your works?" They all nodded eagerly and you looked at me with understanding. "I'll be down here after the tour." I smiled at you and you smiled back.

Sister Aimee came back from the office and said something that made me think.

"He likes you hon. I can see it in his eyes. Now, I know how stubborn you can get, so if ever he offered something like help, friendship or even more, don't think hard and accept it." I was gaping her like a fish. She just chuckled at my reaction and kissed my cheek then she went to do her work.

Twenty minutes later, you came back with Zac in your arms. "So how's the tour?" I led you to a table and put an orange juice in your front.

"The kids are awesome. They let me see some of their artworks and some of them have potential. There is one picture of you in the swing that I liked. Haley captured you beautifully." I blushed at his compliment. The Sisters and I also liked that photo of mine so we framed it and put it in the display.

"Yeah. They have talents that need to be discovered. Haley is genius with a camera so last Christmas we all chipped in and buy her that camera. When I get my pay in my work, I developed the pictures at the mall." I looked at them and they are so cute together.

"You're good with kids," I observed you while you're talking gibberish to Zac and it makes him smile.

"They are adorable." Awkwardness sets in when we stayed quiet for a few minutes. Sister Anna came and picked up Zac for his feeding time.

"Come on. I know you have questions so spill it out. I'll answer them as honestly as I can." I smiled at you and you smiled back with a hint of embarrassment.

"Um, are you- when di- I don't know where to start my questions without making it awkward." You said lightly with honesty in your voice.

"I'll start then and when you had questions along the way, don't hesitate to cut in, okay?" You nodded your head and smile.

"I was found in the nearby church..." And so I tell you all my life's story. From when I've found, growing up longing for a family, the accident and up to discovering my illness.

You are looking at me this whole time and I sometimes divert my gaze from yours because you're intensely looking at me and it made me shy.

"Don't be embarrassed in front of me. The more I get to know you the more I like who you are. You're a strong person and I like that about you." Your words got me tonguetied and I know my blushing really hard.

You like me!? But why? when?

I must have said it out loud because you laugh.

"Yes, Rae I like you. A lot actually. To tell you the truth I have a crush at you starting from freshman year but I just suppressed my feelings because I don't know how to approach you. When you are near me its as if I lost my head and I don't know what to do in front of you." You grab my hand and held it lightly without releasing your gaze at me.

"There are times when my mind is so strong that I want to come to you and confess but when I saw you all my resolved melted and I'm afraid that I'll embarrass myself in front of you." I know my eyes are so big looking at you with disbelief.

I don't know what came next as I've become lightheaded and all I've got is that we are hanging out after school tomorrow.

God, did you just make one of my wishes came true?
