A Sinner's Secret
Chapter 1 ~ As You Can See, I'm Messed Up
Kade's POV
Why?
One of the many questions I repeat. I scream it at the top of my lungs because I can't find an answer. The answer is too far away to grasp.
"Why?" I asked into the telephone, my words traveling to the other side of the glass separating us. "Why did you do it?"
Kellin looked at the marble counter where he rested his hands. His hair covered his eyes and swept across the collar of his orange jumpsuit.
"Because I loved her, still do. I don't know. I had already lost her, and once I got her back, she was taken from me again." He sighed, moving his hand to rest his chin on his palm.
Kellin would be stuck in jail for years on the charge of murder. I think it's unfair, though he killed a man. He was drunk, drunk on alcohol, drunk on morn. Today marked the one month anniversary of Mom's death. Kellin had just found out last week.
"Why'd she die?" Again, there's that word, why.
"Because life is stupid." I chuckled, sarcastically. Life screws us all.
"Time's up, Quinn." A big, burly guard gripped Kellin's shoulder. He nodded.
"Take care, Kade." Another guard gripped his forearm and they led him back to his cell. I hung up the phone, unaware that I was still gripping it hard.
~
I drove my car into the woods, dressed in my usual hunting attire, black everything. My auburn hair held high in a ponytail. It had grown so long since last month.
If people knew my secret, they'd ask, simply, why I do it. I do it because I'm tired. Tired of being hunted by lies and secrets. But most of all, I do what I do for revenge.
Secrets got my mother killed.
Secrets got my lover killed.
Secrets made my mother's lover die.
Secrets screw us all, I realized, not life. I just had so much rage, thinking all wolves and rogues were like Mason.
BANG
The wolf didn't even whimper when I shot it. I don't kill just any wolf I see, I only swore to kill rogues. You can tell the difference by the scent. Rogues don't smell sweet and intoxicating. They smell pungent and dead, the scent of rejection.
I should smell like rejection, for I feel rejected. "You got your filthy blood on my new boots." I groaned, scraping the blood off.
Another secret I have is that I'm really sensitive to blood. My blood, a dead body, a rogue, any type of blood triggers my blood lust. I closed my eyes and coughed while quickly getting rid of the blood on my thumb.
I groaned again when my phone vibrated in my pocket. "Yeah, Louis?"
"Where the hell are you?! You asked if you could go out five hours ago!" I held the phone away from my ear as he shouted. You didn't need to be on speaker to hear his rage.
"I'm out, okay." I pulled the black bullet out of the wound and stuck it in my carrier.
"Out? Kade, I'm tired of your secrets." That makes the two of us. Louis had secretly been dating Eleanor Calder, Britain's sweetheart and famous model. One problem, she's human and doesn't know about us vampires and such. "You haven't even finished the Romeo and Juliet costumes for school."
