A Sinner's Secret
Chapter 10 ~ A Little Help From Above
Karma's POV
This is really bad.
Gah! I should've just turned down this ridiculous job and helped Kade through this. I should act like a mother. I don't need these stupid abilities. Heck, I lived as a human for years. Changing back now wouldn't make a difference.
"There's nothing you can do." I wanted to blow my brains out every time I heard Drew's voice. "She's mature now, she'll figure things out."
"She doesn't have the slightest clue what Mason is planning!" I raised my voice as I faced him, inching closer. "Mason has the upper hand now. He has both vampires and werewolves on his side. What does Kade have? Nothing."
"That's not true." Harry ran up behind me, a hand on my shoulder. His touch instantly calmed me, but I hid it from my face. "She has angels on her side." I slowly turned to face the giant smirk he had played across his lips.
"Harry?" I began. "What did you do?"
"Oh, nothing, really. Just assembled the entire Air Force." His smirk grew, if that was even possible. Up here, the Air Force was the most highly trained group of angels who were sent down on earth in times of trouble, usually war. In this case, there's going to be a massacre.
If we don't stop Mason, he'll end up doing more than destroying Kade for revenge. He'll end up going on a killing spree.
"Harry Styles!" I jumped into his arms, getting swung in circles by Harry in his embrace. He set me back on my feet, a little dizzy, but happy none the less.
But, I knew we were going to need more than a few angels to help Kade survive. Mason has thousands on his side, we have hundreds.
"Don't thank me yet, Kade's far from safe." Harry continued. "I think if there's some way we can tap into Kade's mind link, we can warn her before it's too late."
Heaven has certain restrictions. We can see people, they just can't see us. The only way to get ahold of them is through mind link, but only vampires and werewolves have that advantage. Connection up here is like having no wifi. Crappy.
"I can try." I suggested. "Harry, try tapping into the boys' minds and get them to warn Marcel and Edward."
Since I haven't used much of my abilities lately, I'm a bit rusty at this. "Come on, Kade. Help me out."
'Kade?' Even my own voice was filled with static and my body felt weak from hard concentration on a simple word.
'Mom?!'
Thank the gods she can hear me.
'Listen carefully, I don't know how much time we have. You need to get help, quickly.'
'Why, what for? Mom, is something wrong? Are you okay?' The last part got quiet and the static grew louder. Her voice cracked and wavered.
'I'm fine, just assemble whoever you can. Mason is coming after you with an army, he's going to start a war.' The static attacked again, completely shutting out the part about Mason.
'Mom? Mom can you hear me?'
The line went dead, the static and Kade's voice fading. "Damn it!" I slammed my hands down onto the desk in frustration.
"That's it, I'm getting down there." I was prepared without hesitation to hit the return button on my keyboard, until a hand stopped me.
"Are you kidding me? You'll never make it through the extraction. Once your powers are gone, you'll be weaker than you've ever felt." Drew sneered. He let go of my wrist, pushing it towards the ground.
I glared at Drew, but he was right. I come to realize this won't be like my past years of living behind a facade. I've been a Hybrid the whole time, without my abilities I'll finally feel what's it like to be a powerless human.
I couldn't go down there, yet.
