A Sinner's Secret
Chapter 9 ~ Bare Your Fangs & Wear Your Claws In Pride
Mason's POV
"We are running out of time, out of men, out of ambition!" I slammed my fists downward onto the table, splintering the wood down the middle in a jagged line.
Zayn didn't flinch as pieces of wood flew at him. "Simply recruit new ones, better ones." He said in a bored manner.
I looked up at him carefully, with a slight smirk on my face. "You're absolutely right, Zayn. Why don't you get started on that. I want you to find every rogue, wolf, and vampire that can be put under my command."
"Whoa, I may have joined your side, but I will not danger my kind." His eyes started glowing a dark red.
"Your kind is what you are, and you are under my command." I stated.
He shook his head. "Sometimes I regret ever making this choice."
"Regret does nothing to make things as they were before." I learned that the hard way. . .
He shook his head, scoffing. The sound of a cell phone beeped and I fiddled with the draw of my broken desk to find my phone. When I found it, I had no notifications for several hours. Zayn was scrolling through his phone, typing.
"I'm going out." He said, collecting his fedora off the chair.
"Out where?!" I called, for he was already outside.
"Outdoors!" He shouted back, sarcastically.
Zayn's POV
My fist collided with the tree that I stood next to. I watched it fall to the ground and snap in half. I would've yelled "timber!" if this was a joking matter, but it isn't.
I've lost so much, I've screwed myself over. I've lost my friends, my mate, possibly Kade if I keep this up. Kade is the closest thing I have left of Karma. It'd be unfit for me to have any romantic feelings for her. So do I?
Despite if I have feelings or not, I need to stick to the plan. And I knew just the people to call for help.
"James, mate!" I chirped through the phone. "I'm in need of some assistance.
James Payne, Liam's brother. James was one of my best mates and ruthless feeders I knew. He could care less about a human life and animal blood. With one snap of the neck, you'd be drained of blood in seconds. And whoever he drank from, he turned, even kids.
"You know I'm always up for a little scheming, bro." He chuckled a raspy laugh. His favorite type of blood is the alcoholic ones. The alcohol in the human's system circulates through their bloodstream and causes drunkness for the vampire. So he's usually wasted.
"That's perfect. I need a little vampire round up. Grab every single one of your newborns and head over to Drew's pack." James knew about Drew and how I had turned sides. Frankly, he preferred me this way, darker.
"Ain't Drew dead?" He hiccuped.
"His nephew, Mason, calls the shots now." I said.
"May I ask why you need my assistance?"
"We're going to start a war."
~
I would definitely be lying if I said I wasn't terrified of werewolves. Sure vampires are strong, but wolves are ten times our size and heavier against our strength.
I straightened my posture, holding my head up high as I strolled through Mason's neighboring pack, well technically Karma's pack since Drew gave it to her, but she's gone now.
Like I expected, at least fifty wolves emerged from the shadows of the darkest forrest known to our kinds. They were all dirty, patches of fur gone, fresh cuts leaking out crimson red blood, long scars running down their bodies, and foam developing at the mouth.
"Do not worry, I am here strictly on business." I put my hands out, motioning them to back away. They growled at me, disobeying my motion and stepping forward, closer and closer until i was directly face to face with their enormous size.
'Why should we listen to you, you're a vampire!' An almost hairless brown wolf snarled through mind link.
'Mason isn't our leader, we don't take orders from pack leaders!' Another red wolf howled.
"Because!" I shouted out loud, knowing every wolf was listening to the link. "He knows just how mistreated you are and have been. He can help give you luxury, within his pack." This only seemed to anger these rogues more.
'We don't need to be under anyone's control!'
"You won't be. You will remain a free pack within his bordered walls." I assured them.
They seemed to murmur towards each other, speaking through their eyes. 'Why do you need us?'
"Wouldn't you like to know?" I asked, sarcastically. "Care to join in on war, boys?"
~
"My job is done." I stated proudly, leaning back in Mason's office chair as he jumped back in surprise once he walked in. "You have your vampires, you have your wolves. Give me my payment."
Mason laughed. "What payment? There is no payment."
"There's always a payment. I did what you asked, now pay the price." I pressed. Hell, I'm basically his servant, damn right I'm getting something for my work.
"I'm letting you live, aren't I? Now go check up on Kade." He waved me off, looking over new paperwork.
"Why do you care so much about her, huh? Do you like her? Do you honestly have romantic feelings towards her?" I joked, a smirk on my face. I watched as his muscles tensed, jaw clenched, and eyes turn dark. My smirk instantly fell in realization. "You do, don't you?"
"That is none of your concern!" He turned towards me with a glare so cold, it could kill. "Why would I have feeling for her? Shes just a girl, a pon in my game. The only reason I'm making you check up on her, is to make sure she's alive. I want to be the one to kill her."
