You were just minding your own business.
Trying to mind your own business.
Then he showed up.
And ruined the day.
------------
Sitting alone, you were eating your lunch. It's not like it was a good lunch either. Just a simple sandwich, a cookie, and some soda.
You sighed and started with the sandwich. Not even that good, you moved on.
Quickly finishing off the cookie, you downed the soda.
Standing up, you went to throw away the wrapper and soda can.
Ignoring the cafeteria doors loudly slam open, you tossed the wrapper and can into the wastebin lazily.
Turning around while facing the floor, you saw a pair of shoes. Not reacting fast enough, you ran right into their torso.
Stumbling to the floor, you saw the one and only.
Patrick Hockstetter.
"Get up," he said looking down at you. His face was blank and eerily expressionless.
This wouldn't be the first time you've run into him. Literally and metaphorically.
Quickly standing up, you planned to turn and walk in another direction. But, as you turned he grabbed your arm. His fingernails dug in, leaving small bloody marks that were similar to curved papercuts.
You squinted slightly as tears stung at your eyes. Vision blurring, you attempted to pull away.
Having another person or guardian with you would be amazing right about now. But you obviously are not in possession of one."Come on," he said while still gripping your arm. He turned and walked you out of the lunchroom while all the other students just stared in surprise. He'd never taken anyone out of the lunchroom with him before. Just beat them up or set their hair on fire and then left.
He led you through the empty courtyard, a breeze moving through it, giving it an eerie and lonely ambiance. It would be perfect for sitting down and eating lunch by yourself once you think about it. Not too hot, there's shade to sit in and best of all, nobody would bother you.
You were stumbling over your own feet as you tried to keep up with him. He was a very fast walker, you, not so much.
"Where are we going?" you asked, your voice just a little above a whisper.
No answer.
Doing a double take, you spotted him heading towards the side doors that lead outside of the school. So there were many different things that could happen after you went out those doors.
You could be killed, or you could be beaten up and then killed. Either way, I win!Various scenarios rushed through your head as he walked out the doors, you stumbling close behind.
He loosened the grip on your arm slightly as he turned a corner. The pavement slowly turned to grass as the school campus was slowly left behind. This was where barely any students and even faculty went. It didn't have a specific name, but some people knew of it.
He abruptly stopped causing you to run straight into his back, but he didn't seem to notice or even care. Quickly turning around he looked you dead in the eyes.
"I'm not one to do this but I got caught. Never expect this from me again. You lost your dog right?"
Your brain went kind of blank. For a second you had no idea what he meant by that. Then the realization hit and you remembered your dog went missing about a month back. Slowly, you nodded, not wanting to make eye contact.
Truth be told, you missed your pet. A lot. Sure, she was lazy and didn't do much, but she was yours in the first place. And your mom let her stay.
"Good, well I.....," he said, thinking about how to explain this.
"Go on...," you said slowly.
He sighed impatiently. "One second," he said walking away for a minute.
You peeked around the corner slightly as you heard rustling metal and a strange ticking.
Hearing him talking to someone quietly made your face scrunch in confusion a little. There wasn't supposed to be anyone else there. As far as you knew, you two were alone.
You heard the ticking get louder along with the sound of his shoes, your heart rate sped up, giving your brain a strange fuzzy feel.
He finally rounded the corner, with something in his hand.
A leash.
Looking down, you saw what was on the leash. Your dog.
Her tail instantly started to move vigorously, like some kind of tornado. He let go of the leash as she ran towards you. The dog barked with happiness as she licked your face. You laughed loudly and smiled, as she smelled you, her nose tickling.
"Oh, I missed you so much!" you said. Patrick just half-smiled and rolled his eyes at you while leaning against the wall.
Standing up, one hand still petting your dog, you slowly walked over to Patrick.
You had a smile on your face, standing right next to him. He wasn't really looking at you, but when you did, he knew what you were doing.
"No..." he said slowly. At the same time, you nodded.
You tackled him into a huge hug.
"No! No! I'm against the hugging!
