A couple of days had passed and to Brantley, it seemed like K.C was being a little more like herself, she was still having her moments. If anything, at least she was getting around a lot better. He had to leave to do a couple of local radio shows, she'd opted to stay home, telling him she wanted to talk with Kolby and the guys.
They were currently sitting outside, enjoying actual peace and quiet when the redhead finally spoke up. "So, how pissed would y'all be if I got out?" All three guys looked shocked for a moment before Jason cleared his throat. "I honestly think it's best. Besides, who says you have to give our life up completely?" Jax and Mars both smirked and nodded. "We've been waitin to hear it, ma. You're happy here, we can see it. It's time you had someone wait on you hand and foot, lord knows you've done it for us way too long." Mars spoke up. "Yeah darlin, you've gone through enough. Let someone take care of you for awhile. We can manage." Jax winked. "Just stay home and keep my damn brother sane." Kolby whined overdramatically, making them all laugh. "It's honestly not just him. I've been through a lot, before, and with you guys and its just catching up to me. I don't want to put any of you in danger again. I feel its best I just step back and let Moa or Kolby take the reigns." "Well, that puts me in a boat with you sweetheart. I promised Sorayah I would get out when you did. Which, I thought was never at the time, but a promise is a promise and she will probably divorce me if I don't keep it." The guys completely understood him, Jax and Mars turning to Kolby. "Looks like lil bro just stepped up." Jax spoke with a smile.
"Any plans on what you're gunna do now?" K.C made a face and shrugged, feeling like she finally got what Brantley meant the other night. She smiled, "I dunno." Jason chuckled. "Feels good to say, doesn't it?" They all laughed. "So we can like, come crash when we want still, right?" K.C looked at all of them. "If you don't, I'll hunt you the fuck down." She punched Jax's shoulder playfully. "You four are my family, you're all I've got. I expect y'all to be here for holidays and shit still. We're just moving from Moa's house to here." Kolby laughed, "Then y'all really can't back out. My momma don't play skippin shit." They all laughed. "Wont lie, it does suck. You've been more than a leader for us, K. I don't know where I'd be without you." Mars spoke up. "Jail. Definiatly jail." Jax joked and they all laughed. "Don't worry. I'm sure you'll still see me next to you and hear me in your head." She winked.
"I know damn sure I will." Kolby made a face. Jason stood up, grabbing his beer and holding it up, the other four doing the same. "My ohana. Done it all, seen it all. Wouldn't wanna do it any other way with anyone else." He grinned, looking down at K.C with a smile as she agreed. They 'oorah'd' their toast, clanking bottles together. "To someone finally taming this wild bitch, too." Jax laughed as K.C punched him in the leg with a playful smirk. "So, you think anyone would find it weird if when I got married, I had Brides Dudes instead of Brides Maids?" They all busted out laughing. "Is it fucked up I pictured us all in dresses?" Mars chimed in, making everyone laugh harder. "None of you fuckers are even right in the head." Jason took a swig of his beer, looking up and noticing Brantley's truck coming back up the driveway. "Just so you know ma, that dude loves you more than you know. You can see it from a mile away." Mars winked her way, making her roll her eyes. "But, I'll tell anyone right now. Won't no mother fucker ever love you more than we do!" Jax joked as they all hugged, laughing at each other.
"Am I cuttin in on anything?" Brantley came up the steps and leaned down to kiss K.C's cheek. "Just you stealin our girl without even askin bro." Mars rolled his eyes, trying to bite back a smile. "Ay now, I never told her she had to. I'd fully support if she wanted to stay in." The singer smirked at his new friend. "No worries. We're happy for her. Girl deserves to be treated like a queen, remember that." Jax gave him a pointed look, letting Brantley know he was serious. "I have full plans on bein so sweet, she fuckin hates me." They all chuckled. "So, I was thinkin maybe we cook for momma tonight? She's been takin such good care of all of us." K.C looked at him. "No. Give your daddy some money and tell him to take her to that new resturaunt in Savannah. She's been dieing to go. Then you call and reserve them the dock table for 6:30." All the guys cocked their eyebrows at K.C's specific orders. "Unlike the two of you.." she poked Kolby and Brantley, who made faces. "I talk to momma about stuff. She's had it all planned out and shit keeps comin up. Let's send em out, clean up the house, make them a dessert, and not be here when they get back." She wiggled her eyebrows when she finished. "That's gross." Kolby gagged. "Jealous." She quipped, raising her eyebrow. "We can head over to the house when we get done an build a fire there." "Sounds like a plan, my man." Brantley smirked, leaning to kiss K.C's cheek before heading around to the back of the house to find his dad.
"Over here, son." He heard his dad call from the barn. Derek was working on his old Ford tractor. Brantley had been begging him to let him buy a new one for him, but the oldest Gilbert man refused. "Daddy, you know if you'd just let..." "Ain't nuthin wrong with my tractor Brantley Keith, just givin her love." Brantley rolled his eyes with a smirk, knowing better than to believe that mess. "Aight then. Listen, K.C says mommas been wantin to go to this new resturaunt. How bout y'all go on me tonight? The guys and me will clean up the house for her, K.C wants to make y'all dessert an leave y'all for the night." Derek had a smirk on his face just short of a smile. "I guess I should wine an dine her. It's been awhile." Brantley noticed his dad seemed more excited now. "So it never goes away?" Derek raised his eyebrow before he realized what his son was asking. "When ya got the right one, not even a bit." The older man winked, standing up after wiping his hands off and patted Brantley's shoulder. "Son, when I came home for good, I was a mess. You were too little to remember, but I was hard on your momma. I drank too much, stayed out all night, had a hard time gettin a job. It was rough. Your momma found me in the backyard passed out in a fox hole I didn't know I dug more than once. I got drafted right outta school, it was all I knew. I realized I didn't even know who I was. Your momma finally got fed up, left you with me for the day." Dereck paused to chuckle, Brantley was listening intently with his arms crossed. "You had teeth comin in, cranky, nothin would work. Sat you in your high chair and grabbed my old guitar. One of my captain's taught me to play. Started singin some ole Hank Sr., and we were best buddies from there. I realized then, I had to get it right for you, then your brother came along and I knew I had to give you guys the world the best I could." Brantley smiled a bit, a story his dad had never spoke of before. He wasn't quite sure what he meant by all of it, but he figured it was something about K.C. "Let her find what makes her feel how music makes you feel, son. You were mine, music is yours." "She needs something that makes her feel useful, like bein enlisted did." "Yep. Don't you dare give up on her, boy. She waited too long for you to give up so easily. You want what your momma and me have, you gotta work for that shit. It ain't all daisies and I love yous." "I don't plan on it." Derek stared at him for a moment before nodding. "Good. Because I promised her daddy she wouldn't marry a pussy." Brantley smirked, knowing that sounded like a promise her dad would've asked for. "Go get ready for your date ole man. Fore your lady beats the hell outta you too." They both laughed. "You know she punched me in the nose one time?" Brantley laughed as they headed up to the house. "Not momma." Derek scoffed, "Broke my shit good. I deserved it. Don't ever call a woman a bitch son." Brantley snorted, he was in a bit of awe to find out his parents had a rough patch back in the day. They had always been smiles and sweetness around everyone else. Then again, thats how it used to go, people could keep their dirty laundry to themselves. Brantley stopped his dad before he went inside and pulled out his wallet. "No, son--" Brantley shook his head, handing his dad his credit card. "I'm where I am because of you two. Treat your lady right on me tonight, daddy. Whatever she wants to do. Don't worry about it. Run off to Vegas, I don't give a shit." They both chuckled. Derek finally grabbed the card, "Thanks B. She's gunna be real excited." He headed inside to get a shower while Brantley stayed out back and lit a cigarette.
"You good, babe?" Brantley jumped when he heard K.C's voice behind him. He grabbed her hand and pulled her to him as she lit a smoke of her own. "I just wanna help you find yourself, just not sure how to." He sighed. K.C smiled and leaned her head on his shoulder. "I just wanna be free for awhile. Go on the road with you, wake up when I want to, go to sleep when I want to, eat whatever I want to." Brantley chuckled, "So, you wanna be lazy for a bit?" "Oh my gosh, YES." She laughed, Brantley noticed it was a real one, he hadn't heard it in awhile. "I just didn't wanna put it out like that." She laughed again. "Like. I want to have the option, ya know? Like, do I wanna go here with you? Or do I wanna just chill and wait on you naked in your bed?" She wiggled her eyebrows and chuckled when he looked at her, surprised. "As much as I love hangin out with you, I'll take option two any fuckin day as well. Just incase you ever run outta ideas." He looked down at her again, she was staring up at him, just the way to make his stomach flip. He used to say something nice to her when they were younger and she would give him that same look. Being oblivious, he never noticed how much she spoke with her eyes. They flickered with an excitement he hadn't seen since they were making the sad attempt to sneak around without telling anyone. Before he realized it, he'd leaned down and locked his lips with hers, his hand cupping her face as he turned towards her, deepening the kiss. She finally pulled away, breathless as she smirked at him. "You better not get to used to walkin right baby." He growled into her ear, already frustrated they hadn't been able to do anything since she'd been home really. He just wanted to bury in her as deep as he could and stay there. She giggled before turning around and walking off, making him growl to himself, having to adjust before heading back inside.
