Chapter 28

   I tried my BEST to get out this disaster dinner without Chance getting suspicious. He feels so strongly about them meeting and what not. I needed to vent to somebody other than my mom. Of course, I went straight to Blake. He's going to have a FIT when I give him all this dirt that's been going on. I definitely wanted us to talk outside the station. I don't need NOBODY overhearing our conversation. I told him to meet me at Mama's Bakery. I haven't been there in a looong time. Mama's Bakery was my first job. The owner, Mama Shirley was a great mentor to me and other teenage girls in the neighborhood. It'll be good to go back to my old neighborhood, see some old faces. Hey! Hey, you look pretty. Thank you, I said. Why you wanted to meet here? I didn't want to go to the station. Still kind of dealing with Kris death. That's understandable, Blake said. How is everything with you? A lot is going on with me right now. I figured it was something, you took a week off all suddenly. Yeah, I needed to take some time off to get some things right. Give it to me, what's going on?

I don't know where to start, I said. I had an abortion the other day. I'm sorry, Blake said. It's ok, it was my decision to do it. I couldn't face the truth of telling Chance. I got the abortion, Chance finds the medicine in my bathroom, and asked what they were for. What you say? I tried to tell him, but the words just couldn't leave my lips. So, I ended up telling him I had a miscarriage. Really Kaydence? I just couldn't tell him the truth. Did he buy it? Yes, surprisingly he did. We talked it out or whatever. We went to dinner that next day. He apologized for doubting me and thinking I was cheating. He ends up proposing again with this amazing new ring, I said while showing Blake my ring. It's beautiful! Guess who comes to the table to congratulate us. Who? The guy I told you about. Are you serious? Yes, he came to our table. To make a long story short, Chance invites him over to his sister house for dinner. I'm sorry for laughing but this shit is crazy. Who you telling? You going to the dinner? I tried to talk Chance out of it. He asked if I knew the guy or knew something about him. I just told him it doesn't seem like a good idea. We're inviting a random man to his sister house. Like, that shit is crazy. Yeah, it really is. Then he lied about his name. He told Chance his name was Aiden. Damn, what type of shit this man on? I really don't know, I said. Does he know about the abortion? Yeah, I saw him at the store while I was waiting on my prescription. I didn't want to have the conversation with him so soon, but I wanted to get it out the way. We sat down and talked. He was hurt, he cried when I told him. I told him after today, I couldn't talk to or see him anymore. It sounds like he really out to end your marriage. I know, now im really regretting ever meeting him. So, what you going to do about the dinner? Don't have no choice but to go. Chance said the moment I feel uncomfortable, we could leave. But why would y'all leave a random man with his sister? That's the exact same thing I said. Chance said he know his sister can handle herself if it came down to it. He feels so strongly about them meeting, so im just going to roll with it. I told him, if it goes wrong or something ends up happening it's not on me. I would have said the same thing, Blake said. Let me get out of here, so I can take a nap before all of this. Ok, just call me later.

It was almost time for the dinner. It seems like time just flew by for this moment. I was taking my time getting dressed. You still not ready, Chance asked? I'm almost ready. How, when you not dressed? It won't take me long, I said. I talked to Honest, she seems excited about meeting him. How you know he's even coming? Guess we'll find out when we get there. Where y'all at? Still at the house, Chance said. What's taking y'all so long? Waiting on her to finish getting dressed. I don't want this man showing up and the people that invited him late. We coming, we coming. I'm not sure on what to wear, I said. Are you really doing this right now? What? It's just a simple dinner, you don't have to dress to impress. I'm trying to find something that's not too tight, im already cramping. Wear one of your loose dresses, Chance said. I could. I'll grab one while you finish fixing your face up. I wanted to look cute but not too cute. Don't need King getting no reminders of what he can't have no more. Chance came back with my black maxi dress. Why the black one? I like you in this one, Chance said. I figured you would want something comfortable, so I got you these sandals. That'll work. I got dressed and we headed out. I'm hoping this goes smoothly for everybody.
