Chapter 11

     I don't know what's wrong with me, I thought. I came here to end things with King and yet I allowed myself to do this shit again. Like, why can't I just tell him the truth and get it over with? I tried to keep my cool while King was fingering me under the table. It was a few times where a moan almost slipped out. I need to figure out something before I fuck around and get caught. I was headed home when my mom called. Hey ma! Hey, you at work? Headed home, what's up? I need you to stop by for a few minutes. I didn't know you were back. Thought you wasn't coming back for a few days? Something came up and I needed to come back early. Something like what? Just come by the house child, my mom said. Ok, ill be there in a few. Something going on, I could hear it in her voice. For one, she headed her trip early. She was looking forward to that trip. Then, she wants me to come over. She normally only wants me to come over to watch tv with her or she got some bad news. I really don't need no bad news today.

    Hey baby! Hey, you at work? Yeah, im just finishing up a few things here; Chance said. My mom called saying she need me to stop by. Oh, she back already? She said something came up and she had to come back early. Sounds serious, Chance said. Yeah, I thought so too. I'm headed there now to see what's going on. I'll see you when you get home, Chance said. The whole time I was headed to my mom's, something just didn't feel right. The closer I got, the more nervous I got. I didn't even park my car right. MA! MA! Girl stop yelling, my mom said while coming out the kitchen. What's wrong? It's somebody here to see you. Who? Hey baby girl. I looked to my right and saw my sperm donor standing there. I haven't seen this man since I was 6. He showed up at my 6th birthday party drunk and high as hell. I haven't seen him since then. It's weird he here suddenly. It's weirder he that he knows where my mom lives.

   What you doing here? I came to check on my 2 favorite women, he said. Don't give me that shit, I said. Language, my mom said. I haven't seen or heard from you since you ruined my 6th birthday party. What kind of trouble you in now? No, how much money you need? I don't need anything, I just wanted to check on y'all. As you see we're both alive, you can leave now. Excuse me, I have to take this. What the hell is he doing here? What I tell you about your language? What is he doing here? He called me while I was gone, we talked for a little while, and he asked to see me. Soo you just rushed back home and gave him your address? He needed to see me, my mom said. For what? He hasn't gave a damn about neither one of us. He wants something, can't you see that? Well, let me be the judge of that. Well, im not about to sit around and find out. I know he wants something, you'll see. I really thought it was something serious. I'm not even shocked his ass popped back up. So typical of him.

   Hey, everything ok with your mom? Yeah, that man back in the picture. Your dad? Yes, that man. What he want? I didn't stay long enough to hear. Either he wants money or he in some kind of trouble. How was work? It was ok, still getting used to this Captain title. I'm going to run you a nice hot bath, get dinner started, then you can relax. That sounds nice, I said. The whole time I was in the tub, I couldn't help but feel bad for what I been doing. Chance is an amazing guy, I really do love him. No, I don't always act like it nor do I always show it. Chance has been by my side through every step of the way. I don't know what ill do if I ever lose him. While I was in the tub, I heard my phone ringing from the other room. Baby, you have a phone call. Who is it? Smith, Chance said while handing me the phone. What's up? Sorry to disturb you but we have a situation. What? It's a code 5, Smith said. Shit, send me the address. I'll have everything ready when you get here. Code 5 is one of those calls we hate getting. Whenever we go on a call, we like to code it by the number of bodies. It makes it easier for us to know what we're faces and what we're about to walk into. This is actually the first call we've gotten since I became Captain. All the other calls was small stuff. Captains only really get involved when it's a serious case. Everything ok? Got a code 5, I said while getting dressed. I'll call you when im on the way back.

     I made it to the crime scene as fast as I could. It was beyond ugly! What we got? It's 2 bodies in the living room, one in the kitchen, and 2 found in the master bedroom. The brother came home from work and found them all dead. Really? Where is he? Giving his statement to Blake. Hi, im Captain Washington. Hi, im Braxton. I must admit, this man was fine. I tried to control it and focus on the case. What happened? I came home from work and found my entire family dead all over the house. I called the police the second I found my mom and sister in the living room. I'm so sorry you had to come home to this. Yeah, me too. I bet you get called to scenes like this all the time. It's rare we do but we do the best we can to help these families. We're going to do the same for your family. I believe you, Braxton said. It's not much we can do now that it's getting dark. We can't fully examine the crime scene the way we need to. We've gotten all the evidence and the team is going to come back in the morning to start the investigation. Here is my card, call me whenever you need something. I will, thank you. As I handed Braxton my card, his hand grazed mine so gently. We stared into each other eyes until we were interrupted. Captain, can I see you for a second? This looks like an inside job, Smith said. Why you say that? Just by looking the scene, it doesn't look like a typical break in. It had to be somebody the family knew and felt comfortable with. I got Braxton's job information and the time he says he arrived home. I'm going to check with his job to make sure the times add up. Ok, do all of that in the morning after we fully investigate the scene. Will do, Smith said.

    I made it to the house around 1 something. What you doing still up? I was waiting on you to get home, Chance said. I figured you would want to talk about the case. I know how hard it is for you to sleep after getting a call like that. Yeah, this has to be the worst case we've gotten in a long time. A guy came home to find his entire family dead all over the house. Damn, that sucks. Y'all have any leads? It was dark so we couldn't really investigate the scene like we normally would do. We took pictures and the guys' statement. Smith thinks it's an inside job. There were no signs of breaking in. Whoever did it had to be somebody the family knew. You think so? Smith thinks the guy that found them could be behind it. He said when he got home from work he found them dead. I told Smith to check his story after we fully investigate the scene first. I don't want him to be accused until we have a reason to accuse him. I know y'all gon do what y'all have to do to help his family. I'm going to the scene early, try to get a head start. Well, sounds like you need to be sleep. I'm about to go, I said.
