Chad walked slowly down the stairs, already hearing the chattering from below while he fixed his black blazer, he was wearing a blazer along with black shoes, white t-shirt and black pants. Looking more smarter then ever before. The clothes were obviously chosen by his mother who waited so patiently for her son to arrive downstairs so that they could start their lunch.
Chad was already downstairs, already smelling the amazing scent of soup, which was always their starters. He walked towards the kitchen, coming face to face with his family and two other people who he had not yet met.
Everyone's face turned towards the younger boy as he arrived, Helena Beaumont's lips turned into a smile, looking with pride at her son delighted. Chad smiled at his mother and then turned towards the two strangers.
Chad first walked towards the woman, she had brown hair in a high ponytail and bright blue eyes, who had a red dress on. The woman smiled at the boy before they even said the first word.
"Hello, I'm Chad, nice to meet you." Chad said, starting a conversation and being polite.
"Hi Chad, nice to meet you too, I'm Olivia and this is my husband, Andy." The woman spoke, politely pulling the older gentleman towards the pair as he slightly smiled at the boy. "Nice to meet you - uh -" The man struggled by not remembering the boy's name, quickly looking down in embarrassment.
"Chad." The boy said with a genuine smile before they were quickly called by Helena Beaumont to dinner, as Chad's father hugged the boy before everyone was sat at the table and then soon enough everyone was eating and having a nice chat.
"So, Chad what school do you go to?" Andy asked the boy while the boy swallowed some soup that was on his mouth before replying.
"Liberty High School." Chad said with a smile as Andy's face slightly fell into a smile, a pity smile as the boy wondered if he had done anything wrong.
"Do you have many friends there?" Olivia asked as Andy continued to eat.
"Well - yeah, they're all very nice." Chad lied, not wanting to bring his drama to the dinner table, not noticing the looks exchanged between the adults in the table, considering the boy still had no clue that he was sitting in front of the parents of Hannah Baker.
"I don't think thats true." Olivia Baker said making Chad look up from his untouched amount of food. "My daughter, she commited suicide a few weeks ago and it was because of the kids in that school - I mean it had to be, right?" Olivia asked a shocked Chad who instantly lost his appetite, feeling worst then he thought he would ever be once he came face to face with the parents of the girl he had helped kill herself.
"Did you see anything, sweetie?" Helena Beaumont asked. "When it came to Hannah?" Helena said.
Chad shook his head, lying but at the same time not knowing what to say, part of the boy wanted to tell everything about the tapes but he knew he would expose other people that he cared about, it wasn't the right moment.
"Can we please stop talking about this?" Chad's father spoke up from being in the corner eating his spaghetti silently listening to the conversation.
"Agree." Chad and Andy said before silence ruled the table, before the two couples started talking about the new reality show that hit the TV.
After Chad helped everyone clean up the mess after the lunch, he walked out of the house, got in his car and went to a place that he knew would calm him down and take away all the thoughts he had from that extremely awkward lunch.
He parked the car down the hill, he walked up the hill and looked at the big rock that was in the exact same place looking exactly at the same beautiful view. He quickly jumped up the rock and sat down, taking in every beautiful flaw from the city that he called home.
Moments like this made Chad realise how much he took life for granted and that for a really long time, he didn't understand what beauty really was.
While in his own thoughts, Chad heard heavy footsteps walking towards the rock he quickly looked behind him to see Tony Padilla.
"What are you doing here?" Chad asked, his lips turning up to a smile.
"I come here to get my thoughts off things, nice to know that you took my place." Tony said while taking a seat next to the boy who was still wearing the fancy clothes from early. "Nice outfit." Tony said.
"Thanks." Chad replied, not taking away his eyes from the view.
"What brings you here?" Tony asks curiously.
"I just had dinner with Olivia and Andy Baker. Probably the most awkward lunch I've ever had," Chad said before looking down at his hands. "Or the saddest - I wanted to tell them everything but I would expose people that I care about, Justin, Jessica, Sheri, Alex - you." Chad said.
"Me too, coming face to face with Hannah's parents was horrible for me, I felt like I could have stopped her." Tony said, Chad finally taking his eyes off the view and looking towards his friend.
"No matter what you tried to do, nothing could have stopped her, it was her decision." Chad said.
"I could, I believe I could, she confined in me." Tony said, sadness dripping from his voice.
"'You can't save a person who doesn't want to be saved'" Chad said, remembering a line from the internet which he believe to be very true. "At least she's in a better place now. No more pain or suffering." Chad said.
"You really believe that?" Tony asked, looking at the boy as the other boy looked back at him.
"No - but it's better then believing that we will never see her again or that I won't ever be able to tell her how sorry I am face to face, knowing that she is there listening." Chad said, a tear quickly coming out of his right eye, hidden.
"She is." Tony said, placing a comforting hand in Chad's shoulder before they go in for a hug, knowing that both of them needed a hug in that very moment.
