I breathed heavily. I grunted when I felt a small pain in my stomach.
Mrs. Kellie Wellington's pale lips already protruded for a smile, such a beautiful soul.
"Good morning Mrs. Wellington, are you ready for today?" tanong ko kaagad sa kaniya and gave my most reassuring smile.
She will undergo a heart transplant, a heart that is donated by a family. It was actually almost impossible to find a heart for her but when she almost gave up, a heart already knocked on our door step and I think it's utterly beautiful how miracles can happen just like that.
"I trust you." she said and let out a very warm smile.
I immediately held her hand then soothed her a bit, "We'll be fine."
This is always the challenge I face, whenever I conduct an operation for my patients, their lives will always depend on me, with the huge responsibility that I fully take, I always ask for God's guidance dahil pagtapos ng araw, sa Kaniya padin naman naka depende ang pangalawang pagkakataon, while I am just an instrument. Naalala ko noong nursing student pa lang ako sa Philippines, my kuya Sandro always tells me that, life is a very special gift and we should take care of it, and a second chance at living is a whole different story.
"I'll see you in a bit Kellie." I told her then smiled.
THE HEART transplant was a complete success, I silently Prayed to God again, to thank Him for guiding me. It's because I always Pray to Him before and after an operation, just ike what I did earlier. Pagod na pagod ako nang matapos ang operasyon, I glanced at Kellie's unconscious state habang dinadala siya ng mga nurses patungong recovery room.
"You did great doc." Tapik ng isang nurse sa aking balikat.
I bit my lips for a smile, "You too."
When I entered my office, Sally was already there. Teka anong ginagawa ng isang ito rito? Shouldn't she be in Melbourne by now? May flight 'yan kanina ah!
"What are you doing here?"I asked her, bago inabot ang kaniyang hawak na pagkain. "Thanks."
Her hair is in a very neat ponytail, bare faced, and she had a very comfortable set of clothes, halatang patungo na ng airport.
"I cancelled my flight, to deliver a very important message." she was smiling from ear to ear.
Suspense pa! and what is that important thing para hindi siya tumuloy sa Melbourne?
