TBP - Dinner date

"I wanna see you."

Napangiti ako ng nabasa ko yung message galing kay Simon.

"Gale, are you done?"

I looked up from my phone and saw Calyx shutting down his computer and fixing his things. Calyx is my deskmate eversince I moved from Newark to New York for my new writing job. I got a job in doing food/resto review in New York and doing well for a year now. It's my second job since moving to US. My first job was a proofreader for a local paper in Newark that lasted for a year and half.

"Almost. I just need to read it again before posting it for the website."

"Great. We'll go ahead."

"Sure, bye."

I went back to my desk and decided to call Simon. It's quarter to 6pm in New York and almost 6am in the Philippines. Kakagising lang siguro ni Simon.

"Good morning." I greeted Simon na halos pikit pa ang mga mata.

"Good evening naman sayo." He greeted back, smiling at pilit na ginigising ang sarili.

"Nakatulog ka ba ng ayos?" I asked. I know busy ang sched nya dahil sa med school na naiintindihan ko naman pero nag-aalala ako sa health nya kasi madalas na itong puyat at bihira na kung makapagpahinga.

"Okay naman. Nakatulog ako ng almost 3hours."

"8am pa naman ang klase mo. Try sleeping for another hour."

"Wag na. Babangon na ako. Wait lang." He said as I watched him shuffle in his bed, narinig ko rin ang pagpasok nya sa banyo at paglagaslas ng tubig. I decided to get back to reading my work. After a few minutes, nakangiting bumalik si Simon sa screen.

"Hi Miss." He greeted, bagong ligo at naka-white uniform na ito.

"Hello, doc." I said. "Pogi mo naman po."

"Hey, stop that. Baka ma-jinx at magalit yung girlfriend ko."

Natawa ako. I saw him moving to their common area para kumain ng breakfast.

"Dinner?" He asked.

"Yep." I took the pasta I ordered earlier for my dinner. "Breakfast?"

"Yep, cereals and fruits, ma'am." He said as he prepare his food. "How is your day?"

I began to open my food as I told him how my day went.

Our relationship for the past two years goes on like this. Alam namin na we are both busy pursuing our careers and we need to adjust our lifestyle.

Hindi naman kami araw-araw makapag-usap ng ganito but we made it to the point na makapag-usap kami at least once a week. Or keeping posted thru messages kahit di magreply agad ang isa.

We have a lot of argument din like any other couple. Yung tipong di ko aakalain na sobrang selosa ko talaga sa classmates ni Simon and his childish behavior from being selfish sa workmates ko.

But still I'm happy thinking all the hardships are worth it since we're here.

"Ah oo nga pala, hindi kita makaka-usap sa mga susunod na araw kasi may medical mission daw kami." Simon said while eating.

"Saan naman?"

"Pangasinan, IP area kaya malabo ang signal."

"Okay. Ingat kayo."

"Yes, ma'am. Thanks sa breakfast date. I love you."

"Thank you din sa dinner date. I love you too. Sana next time treat mo na."

"Hinay lang, Gale. Estudyante pa ako ngayon, KKB muna."

I laughed.

"Wait for me, Gale."
