I stared at the door, trying to work up the courage to knock on her door.
I sighed and rapped my fist on the on the door loudly.
"Raeden? Can I come in?" I asked.
I waited, listening for the shuffling of material or the sound of feet against the floor. But nothing.
"Rae? You in there?" I asked, putting my hand on the door handle.
And that's when I noticed it. The stillness in the air.
There was no shallow breathing telling me she was sleeping and that's why she hadn't answered, no pounding heartbeat to tell me she was hiding.
"Raeden," I pushed open the door and was met by a horrific sight.
Her bed sheets were torn and strewn all over the floor. The mirror from her dressing table was smashed, the cupboard splintered to shards of wood. Her curtains lay on the ground in tatters, the doors shattered.
Spots of blood littered the balcony, leading to the wall opposite the cupboard where a message stood, written in crimson liquid.
1931.
Four simple numbers with a smiley face drawn next to them, written in her blood.
Anger flooded through my veins and I rushed to the balcony, searching for signs of her.
I flinched as the coppery scent of blood reached my nose and yelled in anger as my eyes flared.
"What the hell happened here?" Lucas asked, stepping over the wreckage.
I spun on my heel, stalking towards him.
"They took her. They fucking took her!" I snarled, storming towards the study.
Lucas paled as he followed me, his eyes wide. "What? How?"
"I don't know. How did they get past you guys?" I asked, turning to him and stopping abruptly.
He paled further. "We...we were out looking for you. Raeden was so worried and she kept begging us to look for you and we couldn't say no," He said.
"Dammit. Shit. Dante has her. Call the others. We meet in the study in five minutes," I said, running a hand through my hair.
Lucas nodded and disappeared, blurring before he vanished.
"Dammit Rae. What did I get you into?" I asked, fear flooding through my veins as I thought about what she must have been through.
And then I gritted my teeth, walking slowly to the study, as I made a silent promise.
"I'll get you back Rae. I promise."
