I wake from one of the best sleeps I have had in a while. I'm rested and feeling awake, but sick because this morning I have to go to school, I just want to be another person who doesn't worry about going to school. I swing my legs out of bed and roll around my ankles and neck around, listening to crack, I walk into the bathroom and wiping my face, I still have bags, but I look rested and on the outside ready for the day, on the inside it is a different story to my unfazed facade. I get dressed in my uniform and pull my hair into ponytail at the bottom of my neck, my hair is so long and curly that it reminds me of Hagrid's hair. It is also a huge pain to deal with because I can't brush it without it going incredibly frizzy, I also can't cut it because Carol loves my hair and I love her's, it is like a cycle.
Katherine is sitting at the table with a cup of coffee, she has cooked me bacon for breakfast. I don't think I'll be able to eat it, but if I have to force it down to let Katherine have peace of mind, I will.
"Yum." I say, smiling and sliding in a chair beside her. I pick up my knife and fork and take a mouthful, putting down my utensils and looking out the window while I slowly chewed. After what seems like a while, I look down at my plate to see that I haven't even eaten half. "Full." I announce to Katherine, smiling at her quickly and taking my plate to the sink. I practically run up the stairs to do my teeth so that she doesn't ask if I'm still hungry and I will be forcing down another plate of bacon.
I hate the car radio. A platform for pop artist to be over played and for ads to be played one atop the other. Normally I plug in my phone, but today it is too much effort and I really can't be bothered. Katherine is trying to fill the silence with stupid questions that I answer with one worded responses so I can stare back out the window. Dreadfully, my hills start to peter and the houses become thicker and more populated and then we appear out the front of the school. I wish I had the guts to make Katherine take me back home, but there were consequences for that and I knew I couldn't do that, so I slowly open the door and get out.
"See you, Honey." Katherine waves to me before drives around the corner.
I join the hustle and bustle of all the kids on the way into the school grounds. Most call out a "hey" or an "Angie," I don't reply just wave or nod, I hate most that yelled out, anyway. I finally was alone in my locker room, I unlock it and take my bag off my shoulder. It is odd, this room is usually a raucous and there isn't a single person in sight. I put my bag in my locker and get out my phone to text Carol.
Where are you?
I ask.
Someone is walking along the hallway, I can hear their shoes. I'll just ask this tosser where everyone is, I lock my locker and turn to see the person nearly at my level. A teacher, I think.
"Hey," I start.
"Who are you and what are you doing in this room?" She asks rudely and sharply, she looks at me through narrowed eyes.
Now, I know I don't come to school often, but who even is this teacher? I have never seen her in my life and she has quite a memorable face. She is my height, skinny, has shoulder length wavy blonde hair, about 25 and really pretty, but what a bitch!
"Um, Pardon?" I say slowly.
"I said, who are you and what are you doing in this room? It has been out of bounds for four weeks." She repeats loudly and slowly, she seems pissed. A couple of boys have gathered around the door into the locker room, looking in amused at what could be a fight.
I smile at her sarcastically. "Hm, seems about right. Haven't been here for about that long," I say to myself. "Well, if you ask me politely, I'll tell you." I say sweetly to her, my favourite game is to play with teacher s to see how far you can push.
She glares at me and is clearly not going to oblige to my request, she perches her lips and crosses her arms.
"Or not," I add quickly. "Well, my name is Carol and I'm justing putting my bag away."
"Carol, who?"
"Eddingward."
"I taught her yesterday, so you aren't her. Liars really aren't my thing." The boys at the door are snickering. "So what is your actual name?" She is calmer now and actually looks a little amused.
"Oh," I suck in sharply. "You see, I can't actually tell you. I'm a secret agent. You could compromise my whole act I've got going on." I start to walk towards the door and she stays beside my locker, looking at me in amazement that I say things like that to a teacher.
"Oh, I see, 007. So, where are you going?" She asks, smiling to herself.
"That's original, 007. Haven't heard that one before. And, why, to save people's lives, of course." I smile and walk through the doors, the boys are pissing themselves with laughter.
"Angelina Rayford!" She calls after me.
"Not my name!" I call back, skipping off to find Carol and Emma. Wondering how she would know my name.
I find them in the library.
"What up, nerds?" I say as I slide into a chair. They both look around for a teacher, worried they will get in trouble for being too loud.
"Nothing much, math homework." Carol says, smiling at me in shock that I'm here.
"Sounds shit. Hey, why can't we go into the locker room?" I ask
Emma closes her book and shoves it in her bag. "Sick of that shit," she says breathlessly.
"It's got to do with renovations or extra classes. Actually, maybe they are painting something." Carol says, lost in her thoughts, trying to remember what the reason is.
"Well, I just got kicked out of there and I told the teacher I was Carol," I smile at Carol maliciously.
"Bitch," she says laughing and gasping at the same time.
"The new teacher?" Emma asks, sketching in her book.
"Fuck would I know?" I stretch out on the chair.
"What did she look like?" Carol asks.
"Blonde, my height, pretty, tan," I say.
"Oh God." They say in unison, look at each and laugh.
"What?"
"That's the new teacher, she is an absolute bitch," Emma says dramatically.
"She is alright. Sorta nice and funny," Carol says.
Emma raises an eyebrow at the Carol.
"But more bitchy then nice." Carol adds quickly, winking at me. "Not the sort to get on her bad side."
"No, she loves me. Just was my plain old charming self," I say. "Anyway she figured out my name, don't know how. I denied it."
"The sticker on the locker," Emma says.
I click my fingers. "That's it!"
