By the time I leave, it is 11 pm and I have been fed and watered. We agreed on what I will tell the girls and when I will tell them, this Saturday if all is well. Natalie also talked me into talking to my sister, so that is why my phone is ringing a number I haven't used in an extremely long time.
"Hello?" Joan's voice is muffled, yet sharp.
"Hi," I reply slowly.
I can hear covers ruffling and her sitting up bolt right.
"Ange?" She says in a hushed tone.
"Yeah."
I can hear her gasp slightly.
"Oh, hi." Her thoughts are clearly jumbled and she is shocked.
"Hey."
"Is everything ok?" She asks nervously.
"Yeah, yep." Realising what me ringing in the middle of the night might seem like to her.
"Good. Good. Good," she repeats nervously.
"Well, actually." I start to think of all the things I need to tell someone other then Nat.
"Are you ok, Angie?"
"Yeah... I want to see you. I've got my license, I'm gonna drive down one day soon."
"Fantastic," Joan says, a little taken aback.
"I have a lot of things on my mind and I need to tell someone, I trust you." I turn into my parking spot in the shed and turn the engine off.
"Me, too. I need to talk to you. We need to talk."
Joan organises dates and it gets decided that I will drive up next week on Monday and stay til Thursday, she just happens to be off uni.
"Won't you get behind on school work?" She asks, still worried about my schooling.
"Oh, please." I say and give an eye roll she would have heard through the phone.
She laughs quietly, her boyfriend is asleep beside her. "Nothing has changed."
"Quiet a lot has actually. See you, Jo."
I hang up and sit in my car for a minute, before smiling to myself. I finally I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Saturday comes a lot quicker then I like and Dad and Katherine are still in Melbourne. When they weren't here I can go to Nat's whenever I like and she can even come over to mine, which she did on Friday. I decided when she was over yesterday, that tomorrow would be a good day to tell Carol and Emma, now I regret that decision as I sit in the library nervously waiting for them. Natalie was supportive although a little distracted with my house and the views that surround it. I paced my room as I made up scenarios and conversations while she looked between me and the window, smiling at the wrong places. When I made up a scenario where Emma storms out and Carol hits me, she stood up and kissed me, telling me not to worry and that everything will be ok. I go over what I will say and glance around nervously at the books on the shelf, I hear a knock on the door. I put down the book I wasn't reading just holding and go down the hall to the door, pulling it open.
"No, Emma. Pineapple doesn't belong on pizza." Carol says angrily and brushes past me.
Emma follows with a retort on the tip of her tongue. "Yes, it bloody well does!" Emma sits down at the kitchen bench stool and Carol invites herself into the fridge.
"Hey guys, nice to see you." I mutter to myself, closing the door and following them into the kitchen.
"How? It is a fruit!" Carol says exasperated.
