The rest of the day is slow and sleepy. If Emma remembered what Carol said last night, she hasn't given me a sign. We take about an hour to get outside of my room and even then Emma and Carol are tired and hungover, Katherine seems oblivious to the fact that they are hungover or she just doesn't want to bring it up or best case, she realised that I'm young and I just want to have fun. At 5 o'clock we start to get dressed and ready for the party, as the hours tick by Emma fidgets more and more with her hands and phone. I open the vodka and take a sip, handing it to Emma and hinting at her to take it for her own good. She takes a small sip and nearly spits it out the window. Carol takes the bottle and has a scull, only just managing to keep it down.
"Well, bitches. It is time." I announce, as I put two bottles of cheap vodka in my bag and walk down the stairs.
Katherine stops us for photos and Emma takes two last bathroom checks before we are on the road. We drive past the school, then Miss Winnett's house, then we are on Jake's side of town.
"We are a bit late, aren't we?" Emma asks nervously.
"Em, the party don't start til we walk in," I joke.
"It started at six though. It's eight thirty."
"At six!" Katherine says outraged and going a little bit faster.
"Oh my God, you two can be best mates. No one goes to a party at six!"
"You can't be late to things, Angelina," Katherine says angrily.
"Wow, ok. My motto is: 'Be late so people notice you.'"
"Fairly shit motto," Katherine mutters.
The girls laugh.
"I swear, you update mottos literally everyday," Carol says.
I shrug.
We finally arrive and we all go to get out of the car.
"Ok, girls if you need anything at anytime, ring. No matter what you have done, cocaine, ice, hired a male or female stripper. I don't care, ring." Katherine says seriously, but joking at the same time.
"Got it," we says and clamber out of the car.
"Ange," Katherine calls.
I wave the girls ahead and get back in the car.
"Now, Angie. I mean it," she starts sternly. "I know you drink all the time and to my disgust, you do weed." I go to interject, but she continues. "Don't lie. Also, I know what everyone thinks of you. All the school mums say it, a few teachers - gossip - you are quite popular, but if you let Carol and Emma out of your sight for one minute and something bad happens. I will personally skin you alive, I really like them."
"As if I would let anything happen to them," I say in defensive.
"I know you won't. Look after them, it is all I'm saying. Don't let some boy become more important."
"Thanks Katherine." I say sincerely as I get out of the car.
She waves, drives off and I make my way into the house where I can hear the music already pumping.
The house is pretty much empty, the music fills every cracks, the bass bounces off the walls, but there are only a handful of people and they are pretty much all making out. I follow the music into the backyard and am blown away. Lights hang from the trees, there is a table full of alcohol, the fence has been pulled down to revealed a bonfire on the vacant block next door and there are about 100 people crammed together in front of the DJ. I pull out the bottles in my bag and get a Mr D's out of the esky near the table, I pour out a quarter of it and fill it back up with vodka and then I make my way to the dance floor.
