Chapter Twenty-Two: Graduation

I've been on edge ever since the whole condom breaking incident and it wasn't until I got my period yesterday when I was completely overjoyed, I immediately told Peeta who was just as relieved as I was but I could see the smallest bit of disappointment in his eyes which left me confused, did he want me to actually become pregnant? Or was I just over thinking this? But yet again Peeta has always been fond of children, something that I don't know that I can give him. Today is graduation day and I'm sadly cleaning out my locker, I'll never forget my time in Panem for the last year, it's changed me.... it's grown on me, I can't bare the thought of leaving this place so soon but I know that one day... I'll be back here.

"Why aren't you with everyone else? They're almost ready" I turn to see Peeta in his graduation gown and cap in his hand

"I just needed a moment alone.... to take it in" I sigh, wiping away the unwanted tears that had fallen prior

"Take what in?" He asks as I shut my now empty locker and put my bag strap over my shoulder

"This place, before we leave for good" I shrug with a frown and he walks over to me

"It's hard.... I know. This was bound to happen one day, I know that it's scary to move on without your parents but we've got to move on with the next step of our lives" Peeta replies kissing my forehead and I nod.

After everyone has received their diplomas and the highest academic student gives a speech the ceremony ends, my parents take pictures with me, by myself, with Peeta and with my friends but I still can't believe that my high school years are over, such a big part of my life is already over. After the ceremony is over everyone goes to The Jabber Jay restaurant to celebrate, I sit next to Peeta and Madge at the long table that holds all of my classmates and others who were at school. I play with my dessert as everyone laughs and talks about how fun college is going to be but that's just making me more upset on leaving

"Hey.... you okay?" Peeta asks silently

"I guess, it's just all gone so fast. I didn't expect it at all" I admit

"We'll be okay, I know that you'll do amazing and you'll get through college" he comforts making me sigh

"I'm going to miss being able to be with you all the time" I say honestly and he gives me a sad smile, he kisses me on the cheek and I let out a sigh, I give him a small smile and try to enjoy myself for the rest of the night.

The next day is Prims fifteenth birthday and it's the day that she's been waiting for as long as she could àremember because mom and dad promised that when she turned fifteen that she could get a cat but as long as she has matured enough to take responsibility. As Prim opens her presents Peeta sends me a text saying that he's coming in with the cat now, I get Prims attention before Peeta walks in with the ginger cat that I hate so much, Prim lets out a happy squeal and walks over to Peeta who lays the cat in her arms

"Katniss and I planned this for ages, it's a boy, he's been vaccinated, he's been neutered and he also needs a name. That's all up to you" Peeta explains to Prim with a smile

"I'll call him Buttercup, I don't care if he's a boy his name will be Buttercup" she announces placing the cat down but Buttercup tries climbing back up to Prim, she giggles and picks him up again

"I think he really likes you" Peeta chuckles, Buttercup looks to me and hisses

"Hey, I've got an idea! Let's cook him, we can't have cat on a stick" I growl looking at the thing

"Katniss, he's just a cat. He'll get use to you" Peeta chuckles kissing my cheek seeing as we're in front of my family

"He's a stupid cat. I feel like he and I won't be the best of friends" I admit as I watching nap on Prims lap as she sits on the couch

"Good, that means I won't have to share you then" Peeta whispers in my ear but I just roll my eyes

"You know, sometimes you're a real pain in the butt" I mumble

"As long as it's your butt, I'm fine with it" he smirks, my god my boyfriend is an idiot, an idiot that I'm going to miss and love.

Just as I sit down on the couch in my comfy pyjamas and popcorn to watch my favourite movie Divergent there's a knock at the door, seeing as I'm the only one at home at the moment I walk over and answer the front door but I'm surprised to see Johanna, her eyes are red like she's been crying.... I let her in immediately and take her to the couch, it's not long before tears start falling down her cheeks which just make me feel bad, what's happened with her?

"Johanna.... what's wrong?" I ask with a frown

"Well.... this older guy that I had a thing with.... he's gotten me pregnant and when I told him he lost every single contact with me" she admits

"What?! Why?!" I reply completely shocked

"He said it was because he was married and had three kids already. I mean all we ever did was sex and he'll leave but it'd always happen if his day went bad. I only realised that after he was told about me being pregnant, my parents don't know because I panicked and came to you because I know that you're the most understanding in our entire family" she sadly admits making me sigh

"How far along?" I ask

"Six months. I'm luckily able to hide the belly but I won't for any longer, I'm lucky I'm still this small" she frowns

"Wow.... you've known for a while" I admit

"Yeah, I only told the father like an hour ago" she says

"Is it a girl or boy?" I ask and she just shrugs

"I haven't had the nerve to go back to the hospital" she admits

"Well then I'll take you, tomorrow. We'll find out and then we will tell your parents because they can't not know about this" I tell her making her sigh

"I guess.... you promise you'll come with me?" She asks

"I'll drive you to and from there myself" I smile, she lets out a very small smile before standing

"I'll see you tomorrow at 9:30?" She says, I agree as I walk her to the door, she gets into her car and drives off, so Johanna's pregnant.... no wonder she hasn't been getting in touch with me for so long, that man is such an ass bailing out on Johanna like that, I hope he regrets not coming clean about what he's done and leaving Johanna to fend for herself.
