Chapter 24 Paternal

"Well, I guess you're trying to start having paternal instincts with Regina expecting your seed," Gold said. "Seed? That's how you talk?" Killian asks, "My relationship to Regina is not my place to discuss, that's her call," Gold said. Regina senses the obvious tension across the room between Gold and Killian and she waltzes over to them. 

The situation dilutes as Regina gets closer to the men. "Everything good? I appreciate you working so fast," Regina clasps Killian's hand tightly, "Yes, yes, with those charges, you won't see his evil twin around," Gold said. "Thank you," Regina nods. "Well, I'll.... get back to my business, you know where to find me," Gold nods kindly, and heads off as Regina softly smiles. 

"You're fuming," Regina looks at Killian, "I'm not fuming, I just don't like him particularly, and I am sensing something, the way he looked at you," Killian said. "What?" Regina shrugs. "He looked at you the same way I'm looking at your stomach since you told me you were with child," Killian said. "Oh boy," Regina sighed. "Come on Regina, all this time, all we've been through, and planning to marry," he said. 

"Right, ok, well, can we talk about it when we get home?" She asks. "Yeah, sure," he nods sweetly and she kisses his cheek. The group has a few hours left to work, and finally Regina and Killian head home after closing up the bar. 

"Mmm, I'm so tired," Regina whines, "Oh no no no, young lady," Killian tugs her to him, she pouts at him. "Mmm I guess I better get used to that pout when our child uses it on me," he smirks. "You have the Dad voice down, 'Young lady'" she mimics. "Come on Regina, it can't be that bad, I honestly think the man is your father," Killian said. 

"Ok, ok ok," she shakes her head, "He is," Regina nods. "SO what about Henry?" Killian asks. "He.. was the father I knew, he raised me, until he died, and I learned the truth," Regina said. Killian sits down and listens to her intently. "My mother and Gold had an affair right into the first months of hers and Henry's marriage, when she got pregnant, they kinda called it quits but you know that he was always around," Regina explained. 

"I see, and clearly Gold has looked after you, it wasn't just your father's insurance that paid for the bar," Killian said. "Yeah, Gold gave me the down payment," Regina said. "And he's always known that you're his?" Killian asks, "Yes he has," Regina nods. "Your Father Henry never knew?" Killian asks, "No, it would have broken his heart, I was his little girl," Regina shrugs. "Mmm," Killian groans, with a nod. 

"What are you thinking?" Regina asks, "Well, Gold isn't too fond of me, and I proposed to you, he seems an old fashioned bloke, and I didn't even ask permission," He said. "Well you also knocked me up before you proposed," Regina teases. "Great, now he really will hate me," Killian sighs. "Not if you suck up," Regina smiles. "Are you kidding? I'm not sucking up to that man," Killian said. "What about your father?" Regina changes gears, "Shit, I'm tired," he whines. "No no no young man," she mocks and grins up at him. 

He smiles, "Ok ok, we invite our fathers over, what about your mum?" Killian asks, "Well she's around Gold," Regina reveals. "Is she? they resumed relationship after all that time?" Killian asks. "I don't think they ever stopped," Regina shrugs. "Mmm, let me ask you something, did your mother really love Henry?" Killian asks, "I don't really know, to be honest, I think they were kinda forced by their parents, well I think he loved her, but not the other way obviously," Regina said. 

"Mmm, ok, let's plan this parental meeting, Two of them don't even know we're expecting," Killian said. "Yeah that will be interesting," Regina sighs. "You're nervous," Killian observes. "Well, I mean a little, we didn't necessarily do this in order, in the traditional sense," Regina said. "We're not in some 18th century storybook love, so we did things a bit out of order, we're being responsible," he says. "True, maybe we should have a shindig, with everyone," Regina suggests. "What like the bar crew?" Killian asks. 

"Yeah, they can lighten the mood," Regina said. "Ok, whatever you wish love," he kisses her nose cutely. "You're going to be such an amazing Dad," Regina sighs, "And that needs a sigh?" He asks. "No, I just...." She smiles, "You with a little baby in your arms is going to make me melt," she smiles. "Well, I'll feel the same," he smiles, but feels anxiety inside. 

Next day 

"Shit!" Killian drops a second glass setting things up, "What happened?" Regina shuffles out of her office, "Nothing, love, just being clumsy as hell today," Killian smiles sweetly. Regina turns back on her heels. "Ok what's wrong with you?" Ruby asks, and the other three look at him. "Nothing," Killian denies. "Come on you're clumsy but not that clumsy," Elliot said. 

"Ok ok, just for once keep your mouths shut," Killian stares at Ruby. "Ok ok," she defends. "I'm nervous about becoming a father," Killian said. "Aww," Ruby and Lacey swoon. "Why? You're kind of a natural," Graham said. "Really? I don't feel like I am, I just didn't think that the baby is really having me, just as much as we're having them," He sighs. "You'll get there Killian, you know they have books on this," Lacey said. "You and the books," Ruby teases. "You liked the one I showed you," Lacey said. "That's because it was sex," Ruby smiles. "What book?" Graham perks up.

"Hey you ready?" Regina puts her jacket on, "Uhh yeah, we'll umm be back before happy hour guys," Killian heads out with Regina. He takes a deep breath, the pair are heading for a doctor's appointment. "So we have to still choose a Pediatrician and OBGYN," Regina said. "Isn't this the OB?" Killian asks. "Well it is, but we can pick someone we want to deliver the baby, and guide us through the rest of it, this is just our first sonogram," Regina explains. 

Killian breathes and Regina notices his leg moving, nervously, and she looks at his hands flying through a magazine. "You ok?" She asks. "I'm fine, I'm great, great," he says quickly and in a higher tone. 

They're called in for their appointment and Regina gets comfortable on the table. The Doctor comes in and Killian continues to pace. "Umm can you give us a minute?" Regina asks. The doctor kindly nods and heads out. 

"What are you doing Regina, don't we have to go back to work?" He asks. "Not until you tell me what has got you so jumpy," she said. "Our fathers?" Regina asks, "It's like 4 days away," Regina adds. "No, it's me, being a father," Killian said. "Ok?" Regina asks. "I'm nervous out of my mind, what if I'm not natural at it like you think I will be?" He asks. 

"Oh Killian, we're in this together remember?" Regina asks. "Right, Ok... Right... " he sighs, with  his nervous tone still. "Umm are we ready?" The doctor reenters. "Uhh.." Killian sighs. "I sense you're nervous, that's normal," The doctor begins, and gently slides the ultrasound around Regina's abdomen. 

"Yeah I'm nervous, first time parents, not the best example, I just worry how good I'll be at it... and..." Killian rambles, and suddenly stops talking as he's interrupted, by a soft noise. "What is that?" He asks. He looks at the screen, with Regina, "That.... is your baby's heartbeat," she said. 

Regina smiles, grinning ear to ear, Killian let's out a breath slowly, Regina looks at him, catching his eye. "Never mind, I'm going to be fine," Killian smiles softly and kisses Regina. "We're going to be just fine," He smiles.
