Soap - Melanie Martinez
Think I just remembered something
I think I left the faucet running
Now my words are filling up the tub
Darling, you're just soaking in it
But I know you'll get out the minute
You notice all your fingers pruning up
He didn't move. He didn't react. He didn't even blink. He just kinda stared at you. You, of course, were frozen in fear. You knew you shouldn't have said anything. But you did.
I'm tired of being careful, gentle, trying to keep the water warm
Let me under your skin
Uh-oh, there it goes, I said too much, it overflowed
Why do I always spill?
You left right after. You knew he didn't return your feelings. How could he?
I feel it coming out my throat
Guess I better wash my mouth out with soap
God, I wish I never spoke
Now I gotta wash my mouth out with soap
At your house you were a complete mess. Throwing books, pushing things over. Screaming and crying. How could you be so careless?
I feel it coming out my throat
Guess I better wash my mouth out with soap
God, I wish I'd never spoke
Now I gotta wash my mouth out with soap
Think I got myself in trouble
So I fill the bath with bubbles
Then I'll put the towels all away
Should've never said the word "love"
Threw a toaster in the bathtub
I'm sick of all the games I have to play
You put the razor to your wrist. So close to pushing through the wall of skin. But you didn't. You threw the razors into the toilet and watched them swirl down. You cried still. Turned around and punched the mirror. Imidiatly hearing the oddly satisfying shatter that followed.
I'm tired of being careful, gentle, trying to keep the water warm
Let me under your skin
Uh-oh, there it goes, I said too much, it overflowed
Why do I always spill?
Your hand bleed. The crimson liquid mixing with the water, creating an orangish color as it swirled down the drain of the sink.
I feel it coming out my throat
Guess I better wash my mouth out with soap
God, I wish I never spoke
Now I gotta wash my mouth out with soap
You hadn't heard the door open down stairs. Followed by frantic footsteps up the stairs of your apartment.
I feel it coming out my throat
Guess I better wash my mouth out with soap
God, I wish I'd never spoke
Now I gotta wash my mouth out with soap
"Y/n!" The familiar voice shouted as he approached your shaking form.
I feel it coming out my throat
Guess I better wash my mouth out with soap
God, I wish I never spoke
Now I gotta wash my mouth out with soap
He pulled you into his chest, whispering the same four words over and over into your ear. "I love you too."
I feel it coming out my throat
Guess I better wash my mouth out with soap
God, I wish I'd never spoke
Now I gotta wash my mouth out with soap
