Miles wrapped his arms around Jax's shoulders. Jax started to shake his leg again. Miles looked down at Jax's leg and placed his free hand on it.
Jax felt his phone vibrate. He pulled it out and turned it on. He saw it was his mom, telling him about his doctor's appointment today and that she couldn't make it.
Jax sighed. Miles watched as a tear rolled down Jax's cheek. Jax noticed Miles staring at him, but he didn't care. Miles wiped the tear from Jax's cheek. Jax looked up at Miles and smiled.
"Can you go with me?" Jax asked in a whisper. Miles nodded. Jax looked down at his lap at sighed. Miles layed his hand on Jax's shoulder.
Me.Park walked out of his room. "Miles could you excuse us for a moment," Mr.Park asked. Miles nodded and walked into the room. Jax looked up at Park as he continued, "Jax the office called to tell me your situation. I just wanted you to know that I'm here if you need anything. If you need anything just tell me. Ok?"
Jax held back tears. Mr.Park was the only teacher at Keaton that actually cared about the students. He always wanted the best for them. "Thanks, Mr.Park," Jax responded. Mr.Park walked back into his room. Jax pushed himself up off the floor and walked back into the classroom.
Time Jump-End Of Day
Jax and Miles we're grabbing their stuff out of their lockers. Miles shoved his stuff into his bag and shut his locker quietly and carefully. Jax followed his lead. As the two were walking to the door, a nearby locker was slammed shut. The sound made Jax jump and sent a chill down his spine.
Miles realized what had happened and walked over to Jax. "You okay, dude?" Miles asked in a whisper. Jax was still frozen. He held up a thumbs up. Miles giggled slightly and walked outside, Jax following right behind him.
When they got out to Jax's car, Jax tossed Miles the keys. "What are you doing?" Miles asked, confused. Jax's car was his most prized possession.
Jax opened the passenger door. "I don't safe driving, ok?" Jax replied, annoyed. Miles shook his head and got into the car. As Miles was sitting down, Jax was buckling his seatbelt. "I'm sorry, Miles," Jax said as Miles buckled up.
Miles looked at Jax with confusion. "Dude, it's ok," Miles said as he put the key into the ignition. Jax snickered. Miles started to drive out of the parking lot.
Jax texted his mom to let her know he was not going to drive anymore, that he was scared to. He clicked his phone off. "Hey Miles?" Jax asked. Miles turned his head over to Jax.
"Yeah?" Miles asked. Jax stared into his deep brown eyes.
Jax sighed. "How did you deal with being sick?" Miles stared at the road.
"Um," Miles started, "The way to deal is different from person to person. I pushed it down and ignored it, which doesn't work. It's up to you whether you stay positive or you break down and hide away from it."
Jax watched as Miles turned into the parking lot. "Miles, thank you." Miles smiled as he turned off the car.
