Jax checked out and set up his next appointment. They got to the car, and got in. Miles pulled out of the parking lot. Jax laid his head against the window. Miles looked over at him. He was everything Miles wanted. He's funny, kind, caring, and, to top it all off, not bad to look at.
The car ride felt like forever, which didn't bother Jax. He felt safe with Miles. At least, safer than he did at home. His mom was always working, his dad was gone, and his sister goes to college in a month. His house was almost always empty.
Miles pulled up into Jax's driveway. "See ya on Monday." Jax nodded his head. He looked up to see three cars in the driveway. He recognized two of them, his mom's and sister's, yet he did not remember the other one. He shrugged it off and went inside.
As he opened the door, he saw his dad sitting on the couch. His heart started racing. Flashbacks of everything his dad did came rushing back. Jax slung his bag over his shoulder and ran upstairs. He got into his room, slammed the door, and locked every lock on it.
Jax started hyperventilating. His chest felt like it was being crushed by a big rock. He fumbled to get out his phone and called Miles. "Hey man. You ok," Miles asked.
Jax started sobbing into the phone. "My ... dad ... showed ... up ... and ... flashbacks ... came ... and ... I'm ... having ... a ... panic ... attack," Jax said in between gasping breaths.
Jax heard Miles grab his keys. "I'm on my way, give me five minutes. Tops." Jax whimpered and "ok" into the phone and hung up. Jax grabbed his stuff, unlocked the door, ran downstairs and out the door. None of his family followed him outside. Jax sat down on the stairs and tried to breathe. His chest was still on fire, ever breath felt like inhaling gas. Miles pulled up in the driveway and ran up to Jax. Jax stood up and almost fell into Miles' arms. "Shhhh, it's ok. I'm right here," Miles consoled Jax.
Jax picked his stuff off the porch and walked to the car. "Thanks for coming man." Miles nodded and smiled. Jax got in the car. He texted his mom to let her know what he was doing.
Miles threw Jax's bag in the trunk and hopped into the car. "So, you have never told me exactly what your dad did to you." Miles put the key into the ignition.
Jax swallowed down the lump in his throat. "I don't really want to talk about it," Jax whispered. Miles placed his hand Jax's shoulder and nodded his head. Jax still felt shaky and each breath he took felt like fire. Jax fumbled around in his bag for his anxiety meds.
Miles pulled into his driveway and looked over at Jax. "Dude are you okay? I probably should have asked that before." Jax shook his head. Miles pulled him into a hug. Jax's tears stain the back of Miles' shirt. "I'm right here man. I'm always gonna be here," Miles consoled Jax.
The two sat cuddled in Miles' car for two hours. Miles' mom car outside and knocked on the car window. Miles woke up and sat up. His mom pointed her finger towards the house. Miles shook Jax awake. "Dude we've been in here for two hours."
Jax smiled. "Mmm okay." Miles grabbed Jax's bag out of the trunk. Jax got out of the car. Miles slung Jax's bag over his shoulder. They walked inside, where Miles' mom was sitting on the couch.
Miles set Jax's bag on the floor. "Hey Mom I can-"
Miles' mom put her hand on his shoulder. "It's fine. I love having Jaxon here." She smiled. Miles had told her about Jax. The cancer, the chemo, and why he went to pick him up. "Why don't you two head upstairs while I cook dinner." Both of the boys nodded and went up to Miles' room.
