Jax walked down the hall to the room where they take vitals. Both Miles and Jax sat down so the nurse could run to go get something. Jax turned to Miles, jaw dropped. "Brooke Taylor has cancer. Oh. My. God." Miles was just as shocked a Jax.
The nurse walked back into the room. She took Jax's vitals and took him to a room filled with people hooked up to IVs. She pointed to a chair and Jax sat down. Miles sat down on a chair next to him.
The nurse sat down her clipboard and said, "I'm going to hook you up to the IV and let the chemo run through. It will take about 2 hours for pre meds and the chemo. Just be as comfortable as possible." Her smile made Jax feel more at ease.
When the nurse pulled out the IV needle, Jax went pale. Miles grabbed Jax's hand and held it tight. Jax turned his attention to Miles and the nurse put the needle in his arm. Jax jumped slightly and squeezed Miles' hand. "It gets easier eventually," Miles whispered.
The nurse hung the first bag of medication. "These are just anti-anxiety and anti-nausea medications." Jax nodded his head, still a little freaked out by the fact he just got stabbed in the arm by a needle.
As the nurse walked to the next patient, Jax saw Brooke walked over to the seat next to him. She sat down and placed her purse on the chair next to her. She looked over at Jax and jumped a little. "Omg this is what you've been hiding." Jax looked at her confused. "The cancer thing. I knew it was something."
Miles let go of Jax's hand. "You were hiding yours too."
"Touché."
Jax pulled himself up in the chair. "Yeah I'm a first
newbie. First chemo appointment. You," Jax asked.Brooke counted on her fingers. "This is my fifth appointment. As you can see," she pointed to her head, "I shaved my head before I started. Makes life easier."
Jax just sat there nodding his head. "Yeah makes sense." Jax yawned, covering his mouth. "So, my dumbass body decided to malfunction and grow a brain tumor."
Brooke giggled. "Yeah mine too," she said, setting her phone down on the table. Her nurse walked over and got everything to do any IV. Brooke didn't even flinch when the nurse pulled out the needle. Brooke saw Jax staring at her. "This doesn't faze me anymore."
The nurse hung a bag of medicine and attached it to Brooke. She walked away and another one walked over to Jax. "You are almost done with the pre meds so I'm going to go ahead and hang the chemo but not start it." Jax nodded his head. She hung the bag just as the first one ended. The nurse shrugged and hooked up the bag.
As soon as she did, the pre meds hit. Miles looked over and Jax was starting to fall asleep. The nurse giggled and went to grab a blanket. "Wow," Brooke broke through the silence, "he lasted longer than me." The nurse brought the blanket back and covered Jax with it.
