Miles sat holding Jax's hand for ten minutes while he squirmed in pain. "Kit and Bianca will be here any minute." Jax nodded his head. Jax couldn't think straight. The pain blocked his thought process. Miles texted Bianca to ask where she was. He could tell that Jax was struggling. As Jax squirmed, Bianca and Kit walked in.
Bianca noticed Jax was in pain, and she ran over and wrapped him in her arms. Kit walked over to Miles and gave him a big hug. It was a full two minutes before Bianca let go of Jax. "Sorry, my philosophy is that hugs can make anyone feel better. " Jax nodded his head then winced in pain. Miles went back to holding Jax's hand. He didn't know if it was making Jax feel any better, but he liked to pretend it was.
Jax's nurse walked into the room and took his vitals. His doctor walked in two seconds afterward. "So, you might go home soon, Jax," Dr.Morris explained. Miles perked up when he heard this. Jax's nurse shook her head.
"Doctor, his temperature is 100.8 still. Are you sure you want to send him home?" Dr. Morris nodded his head. The nurse shrugged her shoulders and walked out of the room. Dr.Morris smiled and left the room as well. Jax was happy, but then the thoughts crept in. What if you go home and die? You'll leave your friends and family.
Miles noticed something and asked, "Babe, you okay?" Jax just nodded his head. Bianca and Kit both looked up. "You guys should head home, it's getting late. " Kit nodded her head and grabbed her stuff.
Bianca stood up and hugged Jax and Miles. She picked up her phone and keys and told Jax "I'll come to see you wherever you are. I'll text you an hour before I head out." Jax nodded and looked to the other side of the room. And with that, Bianca and Kit left.
Jax let out a heavy sigh. All his anxiety drifted away and the thoughts finally stopped. Miles crawled into Jax's bed and cuddled up next to him. "I love you so much," Miles confessed as he laid his head on Jax's chest. Miles looked up at Jax and began, "I love you so so much," Miles paused, thinking about what to say next. "I love you so much that I'd fight a bear for you." Jax laughed. He wrapped his arms around Miles. Jax's stomach pain had stopped completely when Miles crawled into his bed.
Jax started to fall asleep under Miles' warmth. "I'm gonna fall asleep now, I love you, " Jax told Miles sleepily. Miles reached up and kissed Jax's forehead. Jax fell asleep five minutes later. But Miles couldn't fall asleep. He was scared of what might happen when Jax goes home. Miles eventually quieted his mind and he fell asleep.
Time Jump: The Next Morning
Jax was the first one to wake up. Miles was still curled up on Jax's chest. Jax looked down at the boy he loved. He had never seen Miles look so adorable. Miles woke up and noticed Jax staring at him. "Well, that's creepy babe," Miles stated to Jax. This statement made Jax laugh.
Jax and Miles continued laughing till their stomachs hurt. Jax had almost forgotten he was sick, but then the nausea kicked in. Jax motioned for Miles to grab the trash can and Miles obliged. Jax heaved into the trash can as Miles rubbed his back. Miles pressed the nurse call button as Jax was too weak to do so. His nurse, Cathy, ran into the room. "I'll get you some medicine for the nausea, sweetheart." And with that, she ran back out of the room.
Two minutes later, the nurse ran back into the room with a pill in a cup. "Here you go, honey," the nurse whispered. But Jax couldn't take the pill as he could not stop vomiting. So the nurse had an idea. She ran and got the IV form of the medication. She inserted the needle into Jax's existing IV. After five minutes Jax started to feel better.
Jax thanked his nurse and she went on her way. Miles and Jax talked until the doctor walked in. Jax went silent, gripping Miles' hand while hoping for good news. "Well Jax, your blood counts have been good but we'd like to keep you until tonight so you can go ahead and do your chemo here. Does that sound alright," Dr.Morris asked. Jax nodded his head excitedly. "Good I'll see you tonight." Miles jumped up and hugged Jax.
Time Jump:Three Hours
The nurse walked in with the bag of chemo. Pre meds had already run and Jax was asleep. Miles tapped his foot anxiously, knowing Jax was gonna be feeling sick for a week. "I'll be back in two hours with discharge paperwork." Miles nodded head and thanked the nurse.
Miles squeezed Jax's hand as the chemo dripped into his veins. Jax fluttered open his eyes slightly and saw Miles looking concerned. "Babe, don't look so worried," Jax told Miles. Miles looked up from Jax's hand up to his face.
"Babe, you know I'm going to be worried until this is over," Miles explained to Jax. Jax nodded his head in defeat. "Until you're better, I'm gonna be worried."
Jax heaved a heavy sigh. "Miles, nobody knows when, or if I'll get better. So don't be so worried, you're starting to get frown lines." Miles laughed nervously.
Miles held Jax's hand until the chemo was finished. Jax woke up as the nurse was pulling out his IV needle. The nurse handed Jax the discharge papers. "Just sign the top three papers on the lines provided and you keep the last four papers. Does that sound okay?"
Jax agreed and took the papers from the nurse. He thanked her and started signing. Miles noticed Jax's hand shaking as he signed papers. "Babe, how long has your hands been shaking," Miles asked.
Jax looked down at his hands and, for the first time, saw how shaky his hands were. "Mi, I don't know." Miles stood up and hugged Jax. "Babe I gotta finish signing these and you have to call your mom so she can pick us up." Miles let go of Jax and stepped outside to call his mom.
Jax finished signing the papers and he got up to give the papers to his nurse. He steadied himself on the counter then made his way out of the room. Miles saw Jax leaving his room and went over to help. "Miles, I've got this," Jax told Miles.
Miles stuck close to Jax but he didn't make it obvious that he was worried. Jax made it to the nurse's station and handed his nurse the signed papers. She checked that everything was signed, then thanked Jax.
Jax safely made it back to his room. He plopped down on the bed, exhausted from walking only a few feet. Miles walked in and saw Jax, laying down and breathing heavily. Jax noticed Miles and stated, "maybe I could've used your help. Cause now I'm completely exhausted."
Miles laughed and replied, "yeah maybe you should've."
A man walked into the room. He was tall, with hazel eyes. He extended his hand and introduced himself. "Hello, my name is Eric, and I'm here to take you to your ride."
Jax shook his hand and got in the wheelchair the man brought with him. The man turned the wheelchair towards the door and wheeled it outside. Miles grabbed Jax's things and followed them outside.
