I Don't Bite.. || l.h (Book One) (Complete)

Chapter 1

When I came back downstairs the boys seem strange. I kept asking them what was wrong but they wouldn't tell me. Calum looked as if he was about to punch something. Michael was unusually quiet and Ashton seemed as if he was in another world. It worried me. I haven't seen them like this since Luke left.

"Guys seriously what is wrong?" I ask when we get there.

"Nothing." Calum mumbles walking ahead of Ash and I. Michael didn't answer at all he just walked in the other direction.

"Ash please." I beg as we walk through the doors.

"I'm sorry Payton.." He says simply.

"We promised to never keep secrets." I say letting go of his arm. "You just broke a promise." I state walking away. I soon find my friend and Ashton's girlfriend, Kyah and sit down beside her.

"How'd you know it was me?" She asks and I smile.

"I'm smart and that dress was screaming 'Kyah Kyah'. How'd you know it was me?" I ask

"Same. That dress is so you." She says and I look down at my dress.

"Yeah I guess so." I say and she smiles as a young man around my age, with blonde hair and blue eyes that reminded me so much oh Luke walks up to us.

"Would you like to dance?" He asks me hold out his hand.

"Sure." I say grabbing his hand . He leads me out to the dance floor as the song 'Unconditionally' by Katy Perry comes on.

"You're staring." The mystery boy says clearing his throat.

"Sorry. Your eyes remind me of someone." I say and he smiles biting his lip.

"Have you not talked to him in 2 years?" He asks and I stare at him in shock before letting my arms fall to my side.

"How would you know that?" I ask and he slowly takes off his mask to show the one person I thought I'd never see again.. Luke.

"Luke?" I ask on the verge of tears.

"Hi Payton." He says and I start to cry. I turn around and run away as fast as my feetcan take me in these really uncomfortable shoes. I didn't know whether to run or hug him and never let go. I run all the way to Lauren's apartment. I knock on the door and Lauren, Ashton's sister, opens the door.

"Payt? You okay?" She asks and I start to cry harder. She wraps her arms around me pulling me inside.

"He.. He's back." I sob and she raises an eyebrow.

"You mean the 6" 3' blonde hair, blue eyed boy that left you?" She asks and I laugh alittle nodding. Lauren hates Luke about as much as my dad or Calum does. "Oh my god." She whispers as she hugs me tighter.

"You don't know how much I wanted to wrap him in a hug and never let go. But I also wanted to smack the crap out of him" I tell her and she laughs.

"I'm surprised Ashton didn't smack him. Or Calum. You and Calum have a weird friendship but he's so protective over you." She says and I finally realize why the boys were acting the way they were.

"They knew." I whisper smacking myself in the face.

"The boys knew?" She asks in disbelief.

"Yeah they started acting weird. I knew something was up."

"I'm sorry Payton."

"I'm so stupid." I mumble and she raises her eyebrow.

"You are not stupid." She says softly

"Yes I am. He came back for a reason. I have to know why." I say moving towards the door.

"Where are you going?" she asks and I sigh.

"I need him Lauren. I have to find out why." I say before running out the house.

After I stop at my house for a quick change of clothes. I hurry through the woods towards the only place I knew he'd actually be at.

"Luke." I say softly walking over to him.

"Payton." He says looking over at me. I sat down beside him as a awkward silent settled in. I finally got enough courage to ask the question I've been longing to ask for the past 2 years, when he breaks the silence.

"I'm sorry." He says and I look over at him.

"Yeah I am too." I say leaning back on the tree.

"Payton I'm really sorry." He says looking at me this time.

"If your so sorry then why'd you leave in the first place?" I ask and he frowns.

"I was a newborn. I couldn't control myself! I didn't wanna hurt you." he says and I get up off the ground. 

"You leaving me and breaking your promise hurt me more then you could ever physically. And bull crap! Ash, Michael, and Calum were newborns! They have never hurt me!" I raise my voice.

"How many times am I going to tell you i'm sorry?" he says and I sigh.

"Did you really think that you could just walk right back into my life like nothing ever happened? Well I got a wake up call for you. I'm not that 15 year old girl you once knew!" I shout and Luke gets to his feet.

"Do you think I wanted to leave you? Cause I didn't!" He raises his voice.

"Whatever Luke. Have a nice life. I'm done waiting around for you. When you get what ever was keeping you from me gone.. Then maybe I'll give you a chance. But right now =. No." I say walking away. My heart was breaking with every step I took away from him.
