I recovered from my shocked state and my mouth morphed into a smile. They worked it out. They finally worked it out.
Wanting to give them privacy I turned around, with a tiny smile on face, I walk back to the living room. I walked over to where Lindsey was and grabbed her hand.
"Lindsey! Come on!" I pulled her off the couch.
"Ella! What is it?" She hissed as I pulled her towards the front door.
"Shh! Stop yelling and look there." I gestured to Emma and Nate who were in each other's arms. Nate had his arms around Emma's waist while Emma's were around his neck.
"Oh my god." Lindsey said. "This is real?"
I grinned and nodded. All of a sudden they pulled away and turned to walk back to the house.
"Oh no!" Lindsey hissed and pulled me after her and we ran back to the living room.
She quickly regained her seat beside Chris while pushing me into an empty space.
"Woah there." I heard as I felt an arm steady me. "Be careful, sweetheart."
I turned my head to see Matthew smirking down at me. I sat up properly and didn't bother moving away from Matthew. It felt nice to be in his arms.
"Public display of affection? From you?" He whispered in my ear. "Well you better believe I'm taking advantage of this." With that he pulled me into his side making me now lean on his chest.
"Matthew, you're still hurt. You're only going to hurt yourself more." I whispered concerned. It seemed that the playfulness in his eyes vanished and was replaced by a softness.
"Having my wife in my arms could never hurt me." He whispered.
He looked at me with that softness and warmth and it made me feel that same feeling I felt last night. As bothered as it would make me when he called me his wife, it was growing on me. It was almost nostalgic. When I saw him at my house, in my room, him calling me his wife reminded me of the four years that I wasn't. It made me feel disgusted to be called his wife when for all those years he gave no value to that title.
Or at least that's what I thought. I came here and learned the truth. Along with that, I made a bet. I made a bet with the man that I once loved and wanted validation of whether I still did.
And at this moment, I could feel the same feelings I felt for this man four years ago.
This feeling made me smile at him and lean into his side. I put my hand on his stomach and pulled my legs under my thighs.
"Well then don't complain later when your meds wear off." I mumbled.
I felt him chuckle and rub my back. "Never."
I turned my gaze to Lindsey and Chris. Linsey was seated with her legs in Chris' lap looking at something on her phone while Chris had his laptop on her legs, doing whatever.
I then looked over at Daniel and Henry. They were both sleeping but seemed to have been watching something on the tv.
While I was gazing around Matthew was still caressing my back and it was truly lulling me. I felt my eyes get droopy.
"If you continue that, I will fall asleep." I sighed.
"I don't see anything wrong with a little nap." He whispered. "Close your eyes, sweetheart."
"Hello, everyone!" I heard snapping me out of my half asleep state.
I opened my eyes fully and gazed at him. At the same time, I felt the space beside me dip and become occupied.
